It's been quite a few years since I retired, but I was reading about the recent Enlisted Review Board, which according to Military.com jettisoned a lot of sailors into the civilian world, often by surprise.

Is this going to be an ongoing thing? My concern is that with all the cuts and involuntary separations, we will end up with the following:

- Hollow force

- Lower recruiting due to the perception the military is laying people off too

- Adding thousands to the unemployment rolls when there are already millions of Americans looking for work.

I am looking forward to a discussion on this.

Sailor Rescued
Oct 21, 2010 - 10:58 AM - by VaBchMom
Ships of the George H.W. Bush Strike Group were south of Cape Hatteras off North Carolina Wednesday, getting themselves ready for next year's deployment, when a sailor went missing. For over five hours, the ships and planes searched. The sailor was found alive in the Atlantic.

Around 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, the sailor's absence was noticed on the Norfolk-based destroyer Mitscher and he was presumed to be overboard according to a news release from the 2nd Fleet. Several ships, planes and helicopters joined in the search and this included the aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush, Carrier Air Wing 8 and Destroyer Squadron 22, as well as the guided missile cruisers Gettysburg,... [Read More]
