Hiya,

I was at first looking at the Army. But decided to try for the Navy. Because I've always wanted to be a pilot. And the Army really doesn't have it except for Helicopters and I wanted to fly jets so I could be able to do it as a career outside of the Military. I talked to a Navy recruiter, and he told me I needed a College degree I think 2 or 4 year. Which really doesn't bother me since I do want to go to college. But I currently don't have a GED. And I told the recruiter this and he said if my ASVAB scores were high enough that I wouldn't need it. I don't know if he was telling the truth but sounded like it. I can't tell over the phone. Well, if I'm able to enlist into the Navy. I wanted to know what would be a good choice before I go to College to try for avaitor? And if I am also have a chance to enlist. Sorry if this sounds confusing.

Keith.

Welcome and if you scan trough some previous post from others on joining you may find some answers on the GED thing. Retired Navy CHief should be along soon to answer your questions also... But he has some very good postings on others questions..

I am almost positive if you want to earn a pilot slot. You have to go to college, a four year degree is keen. Being in NROTC wouldn't hurt.

I have come across many Air Force pilots while taking flight lessons here in Austin. Most of them were in ROTC in college. When you are in ROTC in college you will get a dream sheet your senior year in which you can request 3 of the jobs you would like. If you are wanting to get a pilot slot; work hard. and make the grades. That is something that has to be truly earned.

I would see how good you can do on your ASVAB. This means you should start prepairing for it now, hit the books. I took it 3 times before I got the score I wanted. Then again some people take it and get a 99 on their first try(my friend Joe..)

I have thought about going to the officer side. I figured I should join up first, serve my five years, then get out and use my GI bill to complete college. That way I don't have to be paying back college debt while I am in the Navy. After I get my degree, I could come back and apply for officer training. There are many routes to get to being an officer, personally, this is the way I would do it

-best of luck to you..

Good morning ...

You have set your sights high on what you want to do ... and that is good. Lofty goals like this take a lifetime of commitment ... are you prepared to give everything you have to get there ??

The hardest part of this whole journey to get where you want to be ... is taking the first step. Your first step is taking the ASVAB. Nothing else really matters until that is done.

If your score is high enough on the ASVAB, then they can possibly work with you. A low score coupled with a GED is not going to carry you very far.

Go in and talk to a recruiter in person, take the actual ASVAB (not just the pre-test) and then see what your options are.

Cheers,
PISTOL

Thanks. Yeah I've been study on the Math part because it's been my weakest. But I've gotten better again. But the recruiter said he was going to give my info to another recruiter in my area. But hasn't contacted me.
