So right now; I am going to the gym, focusing on my running and upper body. As it is right now, I am running about a 9:20 mile, with a pace of about 9:13. I am a recovering smoker, so I always say that, 9:20 is a pretty good time with my rehibilitating smoker lungs. Now, I know up in RTC you are required to run 1.5 miles in 12:30, should I be worried about my time? Or will this most likely improve throughtout my stay at RTC?

Also, I havent really started to study my general orders, or the required study material. Although I am quite familar with rank and recognition, and drill. Is there a method to use when trying to memorize the general orders? I have never been really good at memorizing anything, I know its a little late to begin memorizing these things, but I have always been that procrastonator to put everything off till the very last possible second.

I have heard that when you graduate from RTC, you will immediatly ship off to your A school. My rate is ABH, I have heard that aviation school tends to get a little backed up. If this is the case, what will happen if I arrive at A school, and don't get to start schooling immediatly?

I believe that is all for now. I am going to try and get my mother to join up on this site also. I know she has joined another site, but the more the better haha.

Your run time is about average for the age group coming to bootcamp. Yes ... you do need to be somewhat concerned about that extra 1/2 mile because it comes after you are already wore out running the first mile .... so you will be running ssslllloooowwwweeeerrrrrrrr.

They know that not everyone who comes to bootcamp is a marathon runner and you will gain speed and endurance while you are there.

Seeing as how you have clogged your body up with tar & nicotine for a while ...:shakeheadno: I would suggest the following routine:

After a minimum of 25 jumping jacks ... you will run for distance, 2 miles each day at a leisurely, conversational pace (without stopping) Monday thru Thursday for the first week. **** MAKE SURE YOU STRETCH OUT AFTER EACH RUN AS PART OF YOUR COOL DOWN ROUTINE !!!

Then increase to 2.5 miles after that . and then on Friday do your timed 1.5 run. **** MAKE SURE YOU STRETCH OUT AFTER EACH RUN AS PART OF YOUR COOL DOWN ROUTINE !!!

This program will help your legs, joints and most importantly your HEART & LUNGS get used to the additional work of running. Your 1.5 times will drop dramatically within 2 weeks ... and you will be able to do the entire run without coughing up "lung pudding". (Sorry girls ... :lipsrsealed:)

Do something completely different on the weekends as well ... bike rides and swimming are ideal !!

Before you jump in the shower at bedtime EACH NIGHT, push-ups and sit-ups !!! Find out what the required numbers for your age are and work towards that. I advise that you work out your core muscle groups (stomach, abs, back, shoulders etc ...) every day. You will find that you are going to be in the push-up position a LOT during the first few weeks !!

Let us know how you are coming along with this ...

General Orders ... give a copy of them to your friends and have them ask you for them RANDOMLY by number. "What's your fifth General Order ??". You need to know them verbatim and in any order. Have them do this while you are in line at the movie theater, driving around town, eating, wake you up at 3:00am ... whenever. Out of the blue is the best !!

If you want the greatest benefit from this ... have them ask you while you are doing your physical training and in the UP position of a push-up. You don't get up until you get it right !! I guarantee that you will learn them fast ... or ... you will be in great shape when you get to bootcamp.

Cheers,

I love you advice Pistol! [Well, obviously, being a retired Cheif you would be very helpful.] I think that even though this post was ment for Lee I'll follow a similar routine. I've got at least four months to get into shape! Better make the best of it.

Lee, I'd heavily suggest taking Pistol's advice. Only 20 days or so to help prepare yourself for boot camp! From everything I read and hear, I think helping to lighten the load of PT would be quite helpful.

I think I am going to print out your post Chief, and start that work out regiment today. Seeing how it is about 200 billion degrees here in Austin, I'll head to the gym in a little bit to start this.

My friend Travis did something similar to what you suggested about learning the general orders. As a matter of fact, he learned all of them the night before he shipped off doing lots and lots of push ups.

I'll get started now.

I hear ya ... I'm in Houston and I have been avoiding my workouts due to the heat. I think I'm gonna take YOUR que and find a gym .... with some air conditioning !!

**** Something else to consider when you are starting a new workout routine .... your muscles are going to hurt. They are supposed to ... they are producing lactic acid as part of the whole workout and that is the burning sensation you feel. IT GOES AWAY ... KEEP WORKING AT IT !!

However ... the joints aren't supposed to hurt much. You are both pretty young and should have excellent cushioning in your joints ... that being said, if you start hurting too much in the joints, then back off some as you may be hitting it too hard too soon.

:woohoo:

I have just returned from the gym, I am now proud to say that I can successfully complete a 2 mile run non stop; a first for me! I did notice a little bit of a burning sensation whenever I began this run today, but as I hit the mile marker; the burning sensation started to go away. Maybe it is because I am slowly getting in shape!!!!!

Now that I have started the new work out routine, it has given me a couple new goals to work for and accomplish.. I now want to try to graduate top in my division at RTC. I think this newly established goal is giving me a lot more motivation at the gym.

Woohoo! Congrats!

I have joint issues as is because of wheat allergies, I believe [doctors have no ideas and this is the only contection that I can make], but I doubt my problem will be over working. Probably the opposite. That's what buddy systems are for though! ;D

Unless those allergies are do***ented by your doctor and were discussed with the medical staff when you went through your physical at MEPS ... you need to keep that little tidbit of information under your hat ;).

Oh I am, trust me. I've got very minor allergies to wheat, milk, eggs and all things related, but nothing to keep me from doing my job, just too make it that much more uncomfortable if I have too much. The only person who knows is my recruiter. :]
