I'm going to be honest here. Im wanting to either join the active Navy , or the Navy Reserve.

The thing is , back in 2005 i enlisted in the MOARNG. During the process i honestly had some family and personal situations that arose. As a result of it all i ended up getting discharged 1 month prior to me shipping off to basic training. At the time i was living in Missouri , and what happened was that my mom had some type of diabetic shock. While she was recovering from that in the hospital in NY , she suffered a heart attack. Now while all of this was going on her landlord went through proceedings to evict her. So when she got released from the hospital , she went straight into a shelter. Now none of my other brothers helped her. All of them had room in their respective homes. She called me up in tears because of it all asking for my help. I of course wanted to. I went and spoke to the recruiter that put me in and told him of the situation. He of course didnt believe me. He thought it was nothing but cold feet on my end of things and that i was making this whole thing up. I got depressed. It took a former pastor of mine to contact them and tell them that this is in fact real. As a result i was discharged. I got an RE3. Type of discharge is uncharacterized. Because of the hardships she faced , she passed away last year. My reason for wanting to try again this time is`that im now a college student and i see the many benefits of service. With all of what i stated , is there a shot?

I don't see why you would have a problem. My thing that I always say is it never hurts to ask. You can always go into a recruiters station, tell them of the situation. Most of the time recruiters are willing to work with you to help you get in. So I would have to say, go to your local recruiting station, tell them of the situation, let them know what you want.

They worked with me, and I haven't really had the best background anyone could have. I wasn't your best teenage kid, in and out of trouble with the law, and constently screwing off as a kid. When I went in to join, they kind of looked at me like I was crazy, but my recruiter DC1 Wall, really helped me out, now look. I leave for the worlds greatest Navy in about 19 days! YIKES!

The only way to find out for sure is to make the trip to the recruiting office personally and let them make the calls.

You will need to be prepared to give the details of the discharge to them as you did here. I would think an uncharacterized RE-3 should be doable ...

Good luck,
