Hallo everyone,

I am new to this site. I just want to say that this is a great forum. I have been reading a lot of the threads here and everyone here seems so friendly and knowledgeable. I am seeking for counsel. Any advise or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

My name is John. I live in Mid-Missouri. I am a 23 years old US citizen and a college student. I want to become a NAVY officer and I am interested in the BDCP Program. I have a few question about the BDCP Program that I could not find on navy.com or any threads here.

The fallowing are some information about myself. I have completed 28 hours of college course at a community college. I am currently taking 6 hours of summer course. I have just been accepted to University of Missouri. I have a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale. I am a Asian American. I speak Chinese and English. I am 5 11 and wight about 199 pounds. I am currently going to the gym every day, so I can get down to 189 pounds to fit the NAVY standard. I have done everything from bar-tending to selling Real Estates in my life. I have been successful at all the jobs that I have done, but I never really felt a part of any of those career. So, I decided to go back to school and continue my education. I believe I have came to a cross road in my life, and I am lost. I think NAVY could give me the answer. I believe the NAVY could give me what I have been seeking all my life, a career with honor, adventure, benefits, and friends. The reason I am looking into the BDCP program is because I am currently doing very well in school, and I don't want to drop everything now become a Sailor and have to go back to school later. After all, I am 18 years old anymore; I am getting older. I want to finish my education as soon as possible, no matter what it takes. I am not sure what major I am going to study right now. I am interested in Physics, Chemistry, and International Business. I want to choose a degree which I can use in the NAVY and civilian life. I am very interested to become an Intelligence officer or something that I could capitalize on my ability to speak Chinese.

I have spoke with a Enlisted and Officer recruiter. The Enlisted recruiter said I should look into the reserve option. I don’t want to do a six year tour as Enlisted reserve and then become a Officer. I would if I was 18 years old, but I am not. The Officer recruiter around here is in St. Louis Missouri and he seems to be busy all the time. It took me 7 phone calls, 5 emails, and 6 voice messages to finally talk to him on the phone for 5 minutes. And all he told me was to keep my grades up, start working out, and give him a call after the Fall semester when I will have 49 credit hour completed. I understand he is busy, so that brings me here in front of you all.

Here are my questions.

First, what is the chance of me being selected into the BDCP program? Is that the fastest way for me to become a NAVY Officer without being in any Nuclear Programs ?

Secondly, if selected, do I have to go to boot camp right away?
Third, what do I have to score on the ASTB to be consider into the program?

Fourth, do I have to do drills while going to college?

Finally, any suggestion or advise for me? What would you do if you are in my shoes?

Thank you very much for your time.

Sincerely

John

OK...for your ROTC question I finally found this list for eligibility......
An Applicant for NROTC Programs must:

Be 17 years old by September 1 of the first year of college and no more than 23 years of age on June 30 of that year. Must not reach their 27th birthday by June 30 of the year in which graduation and commissioning are anticipated. An age waiver may be granted for prior active military service. See your local NROTC coordinator for details.

Have you tried to apply to Annapolis? Since you need a BA to be an officer, that would give you your four year college AND come out an Ensign. Worth trying but it also depends on what rate you want.

Here is a link to Annapolis... http://www.usna.edu///homepage.php

CRAP....I just looked up the qualifications...you would be too old to go to Annapolis by next summer. You may enlist now, and then apply for Offier Candidate School after all your training. Just a thought, but I would continue to try and talk to the Officer recruiter.
