So I took the ASVAB yesterday and I scored a 92. Just thought I would let everyone know. I do know one thing, I doubt I will be able to be a mechanic in the Navy...

First of all congratulations. That is a fine high score. It will qualify you for most anything in the Navy.

Second, what are you trying to say with your "mechanic" comment? I am not sure where you're headed with that??

Allen....I am with the others.....a 92 is a very high score....you should be able to do just about anything you want....

Congrats on the score. Hope you find something you enjoy doing in the Navy. When are you joining ??

Trust me ... a 92 is not going to preclude you from being a mechanic if that is what you want to do. I know many Enginemen, Machinist Mates, Construction Mechanics and jet mechanics with scores in the 90's.

Funny thing about asvabs .... the pay scale for an E-1 with a 99 asvab score is the exact same as for the sailor with a 32. Doesn't make anyone better or worse than the next person ... it's just a test score.

Cheers,
PISTOL

That came out wrong, I bombed the mechanical portion of the test I only knew the answer to one of the questions and the rest I had to make little designs because I had no clue about them.

Sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone, I should have let you guys know that I am not very mechanical...

woah! trust me, with those scores, or with any...you really DON'T want to be an engineer...some people like that sort of thing, like my Daddy, but if you dont like being hot or working long hours, then it's definitley not the job for you! but you could defintley do anything you want in the navy! just dont let them talk you into NUKE if that's not what you want to do, they'll try that...i promise...LOL

Yeah I would like to do CTI, I think that would be awesome. That is what I am going for, or I would like to be an Admiral. Haha...

So glad you explained. My son is a mechanic and scored very high on the test. But then ever since he was little he took things apart and put them back together.
Hope you get what you want. Like the others said don't let them talk you into something you don't want

like cousinIT (Nice name change by the way) said they will try to talk you into nuke. with a test score in the 90's they will try hard. I had a test score of 79 and they tried to make it seem like I had the highest score they have seen in moths. but good job.

Great job on such a good score. I'm going in as a CTI myself. You're going to be required to take another test called a DLAB, which tests your ability to learn a new language. The crappy part about it is that there is no real way of studying for it, so it seems very difficult. But if you get at least a 100 on the DLAB you will be qualified for CTI. Good luck to you! Also, I've sent you a private message.

CTI would be good, if you did decide to get out you could get a job with the FBI or CIA...you'll have to go throught getting a clearance, which pretty much means it's a pain for everyone at home, haha. they interview EVERYONE! it's also goin to be a pain getting references for everyone together...i hated that part. but you'll go to school in Monterrey, CA and get to live in your own apartment because your school is on an Army base. My bumkmate from boot camp is a CTI, also. good luck, and do NOT sign for anything less than what you want!

The Security clearance paper was kind of weird to fill out, because I am adopted to my biological dad's parents and I didn't know if I should list all of my aunts and uncles as brothers and sisters or list them as aunts and uncles, also my mom (my grandmother who adopted me) died in 2004 and I had to get the address to the cemetary where she is buried.

I am really looking forward to taking the DLAB I can't wait. I am such a super nerd that I purchased a copy of Bluejacket's manual and am working towards memorizing it. It isn't that bad though as the book is quite interesting. I would love to learn Farsi. When I went to UVa-Wise I had a friend from Afghanistan and he spoke Farsi fluently I wish I could have gotten him to teach me because the college only offered french, german, and spanish. Small school...

Are you still on the Kitty Hawk? What is it like on the ship? When you were in Japan did you stay on the ship? and if you did could you go off and go around Japan?
