I seem to have gotten my self into a conundrum(spelling). I want to go in as SWCC, but my ship date is coming fast I'm taking my PST next week. what will happen after that. im new to the special forces deal and didn't give it much consideration till now. I know I will need more time to train before the SWCC school, but I will still have to go to boot camp theres two months more of pt. is there a build up class after boot camp to get you back into shape, or more into shape.
I do not want to move my ship date any further. I would rather go in under my current contract than move my ship date.
and sorry for so many post I just want to make sure i make all the wright choices.

Billmac,
Don't sweat it ... just keep working out and keep your original ship date. You will be getting a decent workout in bootcamp ... plus, if you let your RDC know about your intentions to try out for SWCC when you get there, they can get you lined out with some more intensive physical training. I believe they have SEAL/SWCC motivators at bootcamp to talk to you about it.
Keep in mind ... SWCC is no joke. Your mind has to be every bit as strong as your body because they will push you to your limit.
Do you have access to a pull up bar ?? Start working on overhand pull ups / chin ups. A rope climb is good too. Learn to use your legs on the rope. Your upperbody strength needs to be up there !! Boat guys do a lot of ladder climbs on and off of ships as well as helicopters.
If you still live close to your old high school, see if the wrestling coach can help you out with these areas. That would be your best bet for short term strength/fitness training.
Cheers,

thank you PISTOL. Im going to make sure I qualify next week and if I do My plan is to switch dooring boot camp. Its my understanding that they give you the option at boot camp. Im not sure if you still receive the sign on bonus at that time but thats not that important to me, more Importantly is that I get the job that I want and love.
I do chin ups every day at the gym I have been thinking about talking to the old swim coach to see if I can get some training. my main dilemma I think will be swimming because I don't have a pool at my disposal i could use the beach but the water is still very cold.

so the water's cold huh?! well, if you do special forces, you'll have to suck it up with that! i know i kinda sound mean and all, but i dated a guy who was doing SEAL training, and he said they had to swim everyday for hours even during the winter time. that would suck!
but yes, you can sign up for special forces when you get to boot camp. they have special training sessions everyday, i believe, for them.

haha, Sorry I knew I was going to get something about the cold water. Honestly that doesn't matter to me. I want to start off in a more controlled environment so I can work on the different strokes and my times just like swcc school they start in the pool then go to the bay then to the ocean. Right now If I just jumped in the ocean I don't think much would happen I wouldn't gain any form or speed but I would get acclimated to cold water. My recruiter is training for the buds program but I cant for the life of me get him to train with me.

yep, that sounds good!
start in a pool or something instead of just jumping into it because that could make you really frustrated and want to quit.
but dont give up! if you really want it, you'll go for it!

Billmac,
Good idea with the swim coach ... learn the side stroke like you learned to walk !!! Very important.
Chin ups are good but those alone don't build the muscles that you will really need for this kind of training .... you need to do overhand pull-ups with each hand about shoulder width apart (a little wider is good too).
Keep at it ... and enjoy that cold water
