Could greatly use some advice. I am 28 married with two kids and thinking about joining... I already have my Bussiness degree. IF I joined I wanted to go into the legal field and go back to school for my law degree. I have spoken to a recruiter about my options but wanted some advice from others about Navy life. Thank any of you for any information you would like to share.

Welcome to the Cafe.
First question is how does your spouse feel about you wanting to join and being gone for possibly months at a time? and how do you feel about leaving your children for months at a time. If they and you can deal with the seperation issues and relocation issues then you have a good start.
Check out Military.com also for info also.

Welcome. There will be people coming on here that can hopefully answer all your questions. Best of luck.

Welcome to the Cafe'. I guess I have the same questions as KYMom - how does your spouse feel about this and how do you feel about being away from your kids?

He is very supportive in whatever descion I make. To be away from my kids would obviously be hard but the end results will be worth it.

Keep that attitude and you will go far. Keep us informed.

Welcome to the board ....

Got a couple quick questions for you ....

How old are your children ?

Is your husband fully capable of being both mom & dad for months at a time ?? If he also works this will present several obstacles that you will need to address PRIOR to going any further.

Not trying to pour cold water on your plans ... I just know how hard it can be on families if the proper planning isn't done.

Legalman (LN) is an enlisted rate in the Navy and is primarily (although not entirely) shore-based. Your college time may assist you ... are you looking at an officer position ?? If so, then there are ways to do the legal job while letting the Navy pay for the college to later become a legal officer (think JAG).

Talk to your recruiter about all of these and let us know what comes of it.

Cheers,
PISTOL

My children are 10 and 5.

Yes, Completly! He is what I cll my Mr. Mom. lol For 4 years I worked a full-time job then went to school at night. We rarely saw each other but he, like I knew the end result was worth it . We have discussed it alot and if I do decide to join he has decided not to work or if he does something part-time.

When I talked to a recruiter an Officer job is what I beleive we where looking at. Then I was hoping to be able to go to law school and look towards JAG.

Thank you for your advice and words. I am going to talk with the recruiter again today. I will keep you posted to what they have to say/reccommend.
