Okay so, my son is in A school, as most of you know, and is going through the toughest part of his classes and was to take his "final" exam for this part on Thursday. So he takes his test and missed passing by one point. Well, he's not the only one. Out of 11, seven didn't pass. So needless to say, he called Thursday night, very down in the dumps and said he will be recycled and has to retake the class, which doesn't class up until April 7th, pushing his graduation date out, again.
Last night (Friday) he called and seemed to be in a better mood. I asked him what happened today - he said his Chief came to him, as he was the class leader, and told him the they had 5 spots for remeadiale (?) that could continue on without taking the class over and he had to pick the 5 out of the 7 that didn't make it. His choice? He told Chief that he didn't want to make that decision, they all are good guys and asked the Chief to make the choice, but if he was going to choose my son, to take him out of the mix, that he would stay back so someone else could move on. The Chief commended him on a job well done. He told him that this was an awesome sign of leadership and that he will go far in the fleet.
So, while I have to wait another two or three weeks for my Sailor to come home again (maybe sometime mid to late May), I am very proud of what he did. He said to me on the phone, I don't want to disappoint you mom, by not coming home right away, but I know there are other guys that want to go home too, and I don't want to dissapoint their moms and dads, and I think you would have done the same, so I hope you understand. Of course I understand and couldn't be more proud of him. He has really grown up.
I can't say it enough, while I had a part in who he is, the Navy does damn fine work.
