Im currently signed up to be an AE/CF but im thinking about going to the IS field. just caus its safer and my fiance(future wife *** incase i spelled it wrong) thinks its better, but i was reading it and i didnt like the idea of sitting behind a desk all day. i was wondering if, behind the desk, it was the old 80's computers that they showed us or like a desk top. also is their an IS rating where you acctually get to go out in the field and get dirty? I was reading and it said that theirs some school for the IS's in san diego, that way i get to spend time with my family, or if oyu guys have some idea of what to tell her so she dosent get all freaked out when i go, caus she is going to school and cant exactly bail. ok guys thanks a bunch

Hello again, I just answered your other post. LOL
I can't answer your question but someone will be along that probably can.
Get your future wife signed up on here now so she can start asking her questions and hopefully feel better before you go. Also you mentioned your family is in CA.
Get them on here too, as i'm sure they have their own questions and concerns.

An IS getting dirty ???? Maybe if they tripped and fell
Kidding of course. I know very little about the IS rate even though I know a few of them. The ones I know were assigned to a SEAL unit (only one was actually a SEAL).
The job of the IS is not to go out and do dirty work ... it is to gather & process military intelligence and put it in a logical form to present it to the people who will use the info to make the big decisions !! Like putting together a huge puzzle.
Ours compiled satellite photos, country information & history, tracking information of known terrorists & potential problems within the geo-political area. They would brief our CO and obviously, that info would have to be fed up the chain of command to the various admirals & generals actually running the show.
On a side note .... you would need to have a pretty clean closet with no skeletons inside ... that job requires higher clearances than the normal sailor usually gets.
Have fun with whatever job you choose .... and congratulations on your decision to join the Navy !!!
Cheers,
PISTOL
