I just received my first letter from Ryan. It started out with "Mostly all bad news" my heart sank. I guess he got into trouble for something he didn't report when he was on watch. Although, he said when the incident happened he told the other recruits to stop and they did, he felt no need to report the situation (bad call I guess). He now has to see the Commanding officer of the entire base. OH GOD! He's hoping he doesn't get set back. I feel so bad for him.

Now for the Grad N Go question (sorry for rambling) He told me that he is a grad n go (this upset him because of no family time) so from what I've read you can see spend time with them at the airport. How do I find out ahead of time his flight info etc? I take it they fly out of O'Hare. I could "feel' in the letter how sad he was about everything that has happened. As a mother I wish I could make him feel better. His PIR date as of now is 3-14.

Bounce back with a postive, encouraging letter from Mom. This is all a learning process - we will keep him in our thoughts and prayers that his meeting with the Commanding Officer goes well - keep us posted.

As far as Grad-n-Go - I do believe they fly out of O'Hare, but am not sure they would know their flight information until they get orders in-hand. Depending on their flight status, grad-n-go could mean the day after...it is so hard to say, each situation is different. You may get an hour with him or a day...I know this isn't much help, maybe someone else will come along and let you know more information.

Keeping you in my thoughts...

I agree with Beckie. All good news and upbeat attitudes from home. Encouraging our sons/daughters is the best gift we can give them right now.
It is priceless. My son said it in a letter...."Letters have been a beackon of hope, of distraction , as well as a milestone to look forward to." Please let us know how everything turns out so we can share your joy/pain.

If he is leaving the same day as PIR you will be able to find out that morning his flight info and then meet them at the airport.....you will also be able to get a pass (make sure you have photo ID) to be able to go back to his gate and sit and wait until his flight takes off....he may at that time be able to get his personal things....like cell phone, computer etc....but he will have to clear it first.....things could change though....you never know...

Do keep your chin up....Jennifer went to Pensacola for her A school but did not leave till the following Tuesday.....just keep a positive attitude and like everyone said....keep the upbeat letters going.....

I was lucky with both of mine and got to see them most of the weekend. Our flight was leaving almost the same time as Kylie's and I remember sitting at the airport gate, wondering where she was...about then I got a phone call, saying "Mom, where are you?"....I ran, literally RAN my butt off to get to her gate, which was a long way away, just to give her one last hug and boy was it worth it. I hugged her so tight....almost brings tears to my eyes even now. And boy was that run back to my gate a long bittersweet one. I just barely made it in time to board.

I wish you lots of hugs from your Sailor before he has to leave....

Kristie,
Where do you get the pass from to spend time with them at the airport?

You have to get it at the ticket counter when your sailor goes through.

I didn't get a letter yet, hopefully today however my husband received one yesterday (he lives in VA) very positive and things sounded a lot better. Ryan said he was a Section Leader 2nd Class Petty Officer in charge of 12 others. He said boot camp is tough but not really as bad as he had thought. Some people in his division have been set back for "doing stupid things" he just doesn't want that to happen to him. The PT isn't as difficult as his training was when he was doing wrestling.

He thanked me for showing him how to do hospital corners. I didn't think he remembered because he never ever did them at home. Just tossed the bedding on. He was also thanked us for all of our help in getting him into the Navy (red tape due to an ADHD diagnosis years ago) He is looking forward to weapons training this week and fire training next. He is keeping focused on the end result. 3-14-08 he never mentioned the Grad N Go situation.

WOW... what a difference from last weeks letter. Ryan already sounds like a different person, because he never thanks us for anything. Can't wait to see him. I slept real good last night knowing he was doing so much better.

I hope I get a letter today.
