I was so bummed out when I didn't hear from my son on Thanksgiving. I kept my cell phone 'glued' to my hip all day and nothing. Then on Friday, there was a very informative letter from him... I felt so much better to hear what he had to say. He said the first 3 or 4 days (40 hrs of those with no sleep) were so hard that he began to question his decision. But then he met the director of the diving program and saw all the dive facilities and that excited and motivated him. He said he is just listening, keeping as quiet as possible, keeping his head down, and doesn't want any commanders to know his name... so he can get through it! He said the ones who get in trouble are the ones who don't listen and ask questions. His sense of humor came through loud and clear in the letter and I can see he is fine and will make it.

It was such a relief to hear from him.

Those letters home are such a relief. They're okay, they're still there, they still love us etc. You and the mailperson will become very close. Hoping you continue to receive letters weekly and that first phone call soon. Those are priceless.

I was just sealing a reply letter to my son when the mailman came and drove off. I got in my car and chased him down since I wanted it to go out today as there is no mail on Sunday. I found him a few blocks away and told him I was chasing him and he said, 'it's been a long time since any woman chased me!" lgh... guess we are already getting to know each other better! lgh.

That's funny and you probably made his day! Now he will know the importance of any mail that comes from Great Lakes!

I saved and copied all the letters that I sent to my son and all the letters he sent to me on patriotic paper and added them to his Navy scrapbook. Well.. really it is my scrapbook because I plan on keeping it here at home with me. He had a hard time, like many other those first few weeks, and it reflected in his letters. Over time you could see a difference in his letters home. More excited and goal oriented.

keep those letters comin to him!
i remember a lot of people didnt get letters when i was in boot camp....
you really need to hear from home and know people are thinkin about you during that time....it's hard being away from home and thrown into that environment.
i think i went like 3 days without mail....i was lucky.
there were a lot of girls who only got about 2-3 letters the entire time we were there....
