Well, sad for us anyway.
My son's PIR is the 28th, and one of the major things we were all looking forward to was going to Six Flags for the day. And would you believe they are closed that week-end? One of the few they are closed
My 14 year old is devastated as will be my sailor.
So, I need some suggestions for something else for us to do.
We are looking for something adventurous.
Does anyone know if there is fishing on the Lake Michigan? Wondering if we could charter a boat for the day?
Any suggestions are appreciated, as we are getting down to crunch time.

Hey JersNavyMom - my daughter will be graduating that weekend as well. The only thing she said she was really wanting to do was to take a bubble bath! Guess that won't be hard to accomplish for her.

No suggestions, other than going down to the Navy Pier?

We needed no amusment park when my son graduated in July - just put my husband's driving and the traffic in Chicago together and you have instant thrill ride!

Hope you enjoy your weekend with your Sailor.

The Shedds Aquarium is nice, and also the museum. They are across from each other. Saves in parking fees.

Don't worry, it will be Fantastic in whatever you do. We went to Navy Pier, Rode the Ferris Wheel, and a boat ride, Gurnee Mills Mall, Jelly Belly Factory, Car Museum, Ryan loved this. Ate and ate and ate..........hung out at the hotel, it was GREAT!!!! I don't suggest driving in Chicago. We took the train, it is right next to the Naval Station. $5 for a weekend pass. We rode the trolly to Navy Pier and took a taxi back to the train station. (the taxi ride is a like a thrill ride) Allow time, the train ride is over an hour each way. I know you will have a great time with your Sailor in whatever yall decide. Congrats.

If yours is anything like mine was 10 months ago, he'll be so happy to be off the base and not having his RDC on his case every waking moment it won't matter one bit that the park is closed.

It seemed to me last year that the entire grad group went to Gurnee Mall on the Friday afternoon following PIR, and everybody I saw was smiling from ear to ear.

On Saturday, we went counter to normal advice here and drove to Chicago. The Sears Tower, some Chicago-style pizza, and a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry were our stops. We knew the museum has the fantastic exhibit of the entire captured German U-boat, U-505, and that interior tours were available. What we did not know is that the interior tours must be signed up for separately from the exterior tour. By the time we arrived at around lunchtime, the last tours for the day were already booked. Still seeing the exhibits all through a long corridor approaching the cavernous space housing the U-505 and the many exhibits surrounding the boat itself was spectacular and was the high point of our day in Chicago. I highly recommend it to all. The rest of the museum was terrific, too.

Have a great trip to PIR.
