It was a good week and is starting out to be a better one...well, with one exception.
Got a phone call from my daughter Kylie last week from boot camp. She sounded great! She said she really loves boot camp - I don't know if I'd go that far but she is liking it and likes most of the girls in her division/ship, which always helps. I asked her what she wanted to do on liberty and she said "Oh mom, I just want to go back to the hotel, get out of my uniform and take a bubble bath." Oh and she wants to go get her hair cut so she isn't "ugly" anymore - she said the Navy has made her ugly. LOL We had a good conversation, but it was so hard to hold back the tears - I miss her so much but I wanted to stay positive for her, but then she started crying and I lost it. She had to go abruptly, typical Navy, but I'm so thankful for the phone call even if it was too short.
I also got a letter from her that same week - it was short as well, but I am feeling like a pretty lucky mom to get a phone call and a letter.
I also got a letter from the recruit I "adopted" through United Navy Families' website, to write to. What a hoot! He is wonderful and I am so happy I asked for a name and an address. He graduates two weeks before Kylie and will stay at Great Lakes for A school and expressed and interest in coming to her graduation if he is allowed. I think that would be wonderful to be able to meet him.
My son Casey calls now almost every other day now, which is awesome (I've talked to him more in the past couple months that I have in the last couple years I think). He called today to say that he was on his way to catch a cab yesterday (Sunday) to go to the mall with his buddies and one of his buddies shut the door of the cab on his fingers - he broke three and is in a cast. He is just getting well from tonsilitis and strep throat and was going out to enjoy his first real free afternoon since phasing up and he ends up with broken fingers. Poor kid. He's doing good other than that and says he'll be ready for classes come October. They gave him good pain meds as I think he was feeling no pain when we talked.
So, that's what is new with my Navy kids - other kids at home started school today YEAH! and still waiting to hear if I have a new grandson yet...he's due August 30th! Keep your fingers crossed the ultra sound wasn't wrong and it turns out to be a girl - which would be wonderful too, but they've painted the room with his name on the wall...
Hope you all are having a wonderful Monday.
