Well I went home and checked the mailbox as always, and only junk mail. Bummer. Then there is a knock at the front door and it is the neighbor. The wonderful mailperson put our mail in his mailbox. To heck with the bills, I saw a glmipse of that Navy seal in the upper left hand corner and knew that I got mail from one of my kids. The poor neigbor almost got his hand ripped off as I grabbed for the mail. Sorry Mr. Malone.

To my delight there wasn't just one letter from Kylie, there were 2! Oh happy day! She sounds so positive and says she really likes boot camp. That makes my time 'in boot camp' as a mom, so much easier.

One really funny part of one of the letters was on the side she drew a picture of herself before boot camp (with long hair and makeup) and a picture of her now (short hair, no makeup), she said 'they' tell them that they cut their hair so they don't attract the males. She said they did a FANTASTIC job of that. Made me giggle. She is of course looking forward to graduation and is counting the days but it sounds like she is doing really well.

Oh, and btw - she said she is the recruit with the most mail, at least in her division, which is what I set out as my goal, this time around. She said one of the first days that they got mail, the lady brought in a stack of mail, called out three girls names for mail and the rest was hers! So, thank you to those who have sent her a card or letter - she loved them and of course would welcome more.

The best part of the letters was what she said at the end of one of them:

“I’m going to cry a lot at graduation, I just know it. Not just because I’m glad to have become a sailor, but because you have raised me to become a strong enough woman to do that. My dreams came true because you taught me how to make them come true. Mom, you are and always will be my #1!

You know, no matter how frustrated kids make you or what they do that is questionable at best, before they leave for boot camp - that person you raised comes back out when they hit boot camp - the Navy does some fine work bringing your kids back to you in a new improved version.

Thanks!! I needed to hear that. It's been a long year. The time in BC has been a roller coaster of up's and down's. I can tell from the letters that he is growing up. I am so proud of all these young men and women that have chosen to serve our Great country!!!

Oh Krisitie - it did my heart and soul good to read that. So much turmoil before she left and then when that letter came - tears flowed that were all built up inside - finally healing through those words.
