Well Seth called today for the first time todayand we talked for about 17 mins. It was so good to hear his voice. So, here is my question, Seth has had a really bad case of diarrhea (sorry guys). He said that he started right after he arrived at GL. He thinks that they are putting something in the food! No kidding, he said everytime he eats, he has to rush to the bathroom and he said a lot of guys in his division have the same thing. My father was in the Navy for 23 years and he was an RDC for several of those years. My mom said that at that time 30+ years ago, they did put some stuff in the food to take sexual urges away ( called Salt Peter?). Can anyone shed some light on this? I told him that he should go to the doctor to get something for it, so he doesn't get dehydrated or any sicker. I know that he won't go. Well we had a great conversation but when it came time to say goodbye, I totally sobbed, I couldn't even tell him I loved him...all I could get out of my mouth was goodbye, I so wished I could tell him how much I love and miss him. I was really mad at myself and still am. I just hope he knows...
Sue - So TOTALLY PROUD OF MY SON!

My son was at GL April/May of last year. He got a bad head cold but didn't say anything about digestive trouble. Hope it clears up soon. Don't think they put anything in the food but who knows.

well..I "heard" that they're not allowed to put stuff in your food..but who's to say they don't???? but I know the first 2 weeks or so, my stomach, as well as all of my other friends', was in the same shape. it's a change of environment...it's stressful!!! he'll be okay..

Stress will cause diarrhea. But if he has diarrhea and doesn't stay away from dairy products aand do a clear liquid diet it will take longer to go away. More than likely it is a virus. We see lots of that is the Medical Office I work in.

That is part of what they call the "Ricky Crud".....it comes from stress....change of environment....so many people from all over the county in such close quarters......do not worry...it will go away...

Hang in there Sue - he'll get through this. That Ricky Crud takes hold of everyone and from what I hear it is ugly and comes in many shapes and sizes. Your son and all the recruits at Great Lakes (My daughter is there right now), will be in my prayers. Hope he is feeling better soon.
AND...he knows you love him - your pride in him speaks volumes. Just keep telling him that in your letters and soon enough you will get to tell him a thousand and one times when you see him at graduation. You are on the home stretch now mom - stay strong.

Hi Sue
I'm an aunt of a Navy Riverine. Tim was super sick last year when he was in boot camp. It just took time...stress does have alot to do with it, plus being homesick. that's what Tim said. He is doing great now. He's in Little Creek, VA right now in training.
I know it's hard, but stay strong...he needs to know you are okay. He totally knows you love him, just by hearing your voice when he calls. My thoughts and prayers are with him along with all the other GREAT guys and gals serving our country.
I just got off the phone with my nephew Tim and I still cry when I have to say good-bye and it's been over a year since he joined. It does get a little better but you always miss him and pray for their safe return. Just remember, you are not alone. This website has been a big help to me and you will see it will do the same for you.
