We stayed at the AmeriSuited in Vernon Hills...not to far from the base and in a really great area....movies....food...mall....they have a full breakfast buffet that is included and was really good....we will stay there again when our daughter graduates somethime in May 2007....

So, after PIR, What did most of you do. I'm wondering about the liberty -- the sailors are only allowed to spend a certain amount of time with family, not the entire night, correct? I've thought I read somewhere that they were able to stay all weekend with family -- I may be confused though. Are you allowed to drive into Chicago or would that be too far away? It would be fun to see the sites there. Any info that you all can share would be great -- PIR is 2/2/07 -- looking forward to it!

It depends. If they have watch then most of the time they can't stay all might. Corey had watch just after PIR till 4pm and had it AGAIN at 4am Saturday morning so he didn't get to stay overnight.

Yes you can drive or take the train to Chicago but you MUST make sure you leave enoiugh time to get back to base on time. We got stuck in traffic and were pushing it on Saturday...I think we would have been better/safer taking a train, even on Saturday traffic sucks there.
