Just a note about PIR -
The ceremony was awesome and all that everyone has said about PIR is so true - it makes you more proud than you have ever been.
After the ceremony Casey found us - as in the sea of white, it was hard to pick him out even after finding him in his division. He hugged me so tight and so long it was wonderful.
He is having problems with his orders or the lack thereof and has been moved across the street to THU until his orders for A school come through. That could be this week, next week or in 6 months from now. Keep your fingers crossed that he gets them before August 1st as that is when A school starts.
I thought Chicago itself - the city - leaves a lot to be desired! The traffic is horrible and the drivers are even worse. I liked the Great Lakes area and the little Villages around it however.
Saturday, we went to the mall and to the show to see Terminators - didn't like the show, but enjoyed having my son close.
Sunday we picked him up on base and we got to see the most awe inspiring sight - all these new Sailors walking around going from one place to the next, meeting their families etc. and all at once the entire base stopped. Sailors standing at attention, salute the imaginary flag that was flying somewhere on base and listening to the National Anthem. When the music stopped, everything picked back up just as they were - it was really cool.
We went back to the mall Sunday - he wanted to pick up some things for us to bring back for his best friend here. Then we went to Lake Forest for lunch and then unfortunatley, it was time to take him back as we had to go to the airport.
It was great to see him - he has grown up so much and it really shows on his face and in his demanor on how much he loves the Navy - he even said this was the best thing he has ever done. Now we just need to get his orders.
