Thanks for the post and the links. I now know what my son will be doing soon. He is now half way through boot camp and hopefully will graduate the beginning of February. I think this is one use of the government budget that is well worth the expenditures. Our young men and women need to be prepared for all that they face out there. My son's recuiter was one of the first responders(firefighter) on the USS Cole and I know she appreciates that our recruits will be prepared for such situations should they arise. This simulation at Battlestation 21 is the final "test" like my other son who is in the Marines went through "The Cruicible". Each makes them define how they will react to severe situations and who they really are inside. Thanks again! Sheryl H.

Those videos are great!! Being that I just want to know every step my sailor takes!! But I have a question...are women allowed on the ships when they are away? I heard that they weren't and I do not know if there is any truth to the statement.

they are allowd on surface ships, but not on Subs.
that may be where some of the confusion is coming from

Damage control training has definately made huge steps forward with this facility !!! This is a fantastic program.
There is nothing on earth that better prepares you for what COULD happen onboard ship than opening a watertight door and seeing massive flames in your face-piece !!! Good stuff !!
I spent a couple days conducting damage control training for some sailors from the Singapore navy and let me tell you .... we have it good in the USA !! Their fire trainer consisted of a 12 foot pool of water with fuel poured on top :itsatd:
When I threw the match to it and the initial blast was done, I rounded up the two fire teams (they literally turned and ran :eterollll:) and brought them back to the fire  ... they failed. I put a couple of our teams on the hoses and they got to see how we do it in the US NAVY !!!
Be very proud of your sailors .... they deserve it !!!
Cheers,
PISTOL

yea, the DC part was awesome. having all the hands-on experience definitely helped me get my DC quals on my ship. having to navigate through the USS Trayer helped to learn how to read the bullseyes on ships.

I still hear mixed remarks about the new battle stations. When I was in boot camp they started running some of the divisions on it, and they said they liked the older one better. The new one is babied a little compared to the old one, in my opinion. We had to run all around the base to the different events and if you fell out, you failed. I had a lot of fun with it, but I definitley wouldn't do it again. Haha. The new one does sound pretty cool though. I know my division did a video in the new one after we got our ball caps, I was SIQ with pink eye in both eyes, and my friends said it was cool. Maybe I'll see it one day.

Wow I've got goosebumps. This is sheer excitement running through my veins and adrenaline rush of motivation. I've gotta make it. . . Cause failure is not and option.

Bear...and Ray....just keep in mind what we told our 2....they will just try to mess with your head...it is mostly a mind game so do not let them get to you and you will do fine.....

boot camp is a 100% mind game. they are going to yell at you for the dumbest stuff. just suck up your pride, say "My apoligies petty offier or chief" and dont do it again.
never say "sorry petty officer"

I cannot count the number of times I heard a recruit say sorry, fortunately, I never did, but I did dumber stuff.

you will be fine in bootcamp, i had fun. its a big mindgame, they have you do all this useless stuff for no reason... we commonly refer to bootcamp as fold n stow camp. you'll see why when you arrive.

A lot of the stuff appears to be useless stuff .... and occasionally, it is. But for the most part it is to get everyone thinking the same way, learing to function as a unit and learning to pay attention to detail.
You learn that kind of stuff by repetition & constant drilling .... stow ... unstow ...stow ... unstow .... but it always has to be done the exact same way within the time parameters given.
We don't march onboard ship .... but you will learn to march EVERYWHERE at bootcamp. All in the name of unit cohesion, attention to detail and following orders to the full extent.
You will win the "mind game" by getting your mindset in alignment with the Navy mindset. The faster you grasp that ... the easier time you have at bootcamp.
Cheers,
PISTOL

very true.
but now the only places you march are to go to events and PT
chow and classrooms (except for like firefighting/marlinespike) is now all done inside your barracks.
and if your by yourself, you BETTER BE DOUBLETIMING. dont be the one guy that comes back with a demerit chit for not double timing. you will be hurting at the end of the day.
