Public Affairs guy gave me:

SR Last Name, First Name
Ship 6, Div 937
3510 Illinois St
Great Lakes, IL 60088-3119

My daughter gave me:

SR Last Name, First Name
Div 937 Ship 06
Recruit Training Command
3510 Illinois St
Great Lakes, IL 60088-3119

Does it REALLY matter how the envelope is addressed? I know she received a letter from me already, since she mentioned it in a phone message.
I've already given the PA guys version out to soooo many family members and friends. I'm just wondering if I need to correct/change it?

Opinions anyone?

Carol

I made up a ton of labels like the PA guy's address and have been sending my son's letters with that and they've been getting to him just fine. I don't think you need the Recruit Training Command on the address for it to get to your recruit.

Hope that helps.

Hi Carol,
I was sending letters to my son with his ship and division number on them and did not have "Recruit Training Command" on them and he was still getting them.....however as time went on he started to have his ship and division number and Recruit Training Command on his return address and then I started addressing his letters like that......all and all, I don't think it REALLY makes a difference......they will still get the letters...Lynette

However, there is a typo for Ship 7.

It is actually 3405 Sailor Drive.

In the event that your recruit puts a different return address on his mail than what is listed on the form letter, trust the one your recruit has used.

My recruit is Div 244 Ship 7 When I received my first letter he had crossed out the old address and replaced with the following:
SR LAST NAME, FIRST NAME
Div 244 Ship 07
7117 Sailor Drive
Great Lakes, IL 60088-3127

I don't understnd why they have so many discrepancies but again, I'd trust the address your recruit actually uses as his return address. Their RDC is telling them exactly how to print it.

I agree with Angie.....use the one your recruit uses.....and she is right about the RDCs telling them what to put....

I wonder, though. My boyfriend's recruiter gave me just simply the ship name

USS John F Kennedy
3415 Sailor Drive
Great Lakes, IL 60088-3515

There was no division or ship number. Will it still get to him, do you think?

ProudNavyGirlfriend,
Try writing to customer service at rtc.pao@navy.mil When my husband wrote from bootcamp, I thought I should just use what his return address had on the envelop. The recruiter told me to wait, so I asked a lady at the website above and she said to continue writing my husband as he had on the return address. This was the format with Ship and Div number. However, I got something in the mail later that had USS Arizona. I emailed the lady back and she said to just continue using the address I had initially been writing to as to not cause any confusion. There must be two different formats that you can use. To sum this up, if you want to make yourself feel more comfortable, email customer service at the above website and ask for their opinion. They are quick about getting back to you. Another website that's been extremely helpful to me as well is http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcql Hope this helps some bit.

Thank you!

I was having a little issue after I found out that there are other ways to label the address. I'm not one to have my letters mixed up, and especially not ones as important to me as the ones I send to my boyfriend while he is in Basic! Lets just say his recruiter would owe me big time if he gave me the wrong address, lol!!
