Hello all....

I'm looking for input on the chances of extra people getting in to graduation. In addition to the 4 names on the "list", I have 8 other family members wanting to attend graduation. Graduation is far off, but we're in the planning stages so I'm curious to hear everyone's account of getting extra people into graduation.

Thanks in advance for your input!!

Generally I have heard of a lot of people having extra people come without problem. I guess get there early just in case. It was just the two of us for our son's PIR so don't have personal experience.

I too have heard of no problem of people getting in more family members. It would suck for more to come and not get in but I doubt it would be a problem.

I have heard pretty much the same thing. It just all depends upon how many are in the class, etc.

Well there were 13 divisions when Jake had his PIR and there were large groups going in . There were only 4 of us. There were still seats. Just remember everyone needs ID (birth certificates for younger kids, school id with pictures) We didn't have a parking pass because for some odd reason our son didn't think we would come. 9000 soccer games, 1000's of all day track meets and we would miss PIR yeah right. Kid must have been sleep deprived.

My guess is that we'll just have to take our chances, that until that morning we won't know for sure. I know that there won't be any guarantees.

Wini....it sounds like your son just wanted to give you a challenge, to see if you'd get in or not:)

It should not be a problem.....lots of people have taken extra people along and not had a problem with them getting in.....

Hello all,

Thanks so much for all of your input! It's reassuring that we'll be able to get extra people in to see PIR.
I just saw on the Great Lakes Recruit Training Command website that there will be 12 divisions graduating on 8/10. Obviously I was hoping it would be a smaller number, but that's not to be.

Carol,

I might have some room on Ashley's list as I think it might just be me going. Tell Melissa to ask Ashley to put some on her list if she hears from me that the rest of my family can't come.

Carol,

Where did you see about the 12 divisions graduating? I couldn't find that on the website.

This is how it's listed on the above website:

TG 37 12 Divisions (253, 255 – 264, 937) graduate Friday, 10 Aug 07

So I figure that it'll be 1000+ graduating. That's a lot of people. I did ask Melissa to ask other recruits about adding the names of her grandparents to their list, but only if they knew that they had the room. Other than her grandparents, my 2 sisters-in-law and their daughters will probably be making the trip. But they both said that as long as Melissa has liberty that weekend and they get to see her, that's all that matters to them. They would be understanding if they didn't get in......but they will try!!! They both were without a ticket to my other daughters high school graduation back in June, and they were determined enough to keep asking about getting in until the "officials" finally gave them tickets to get in. They were one of the last people in and they got to sit down by the track, in comfortable chairs....perfect view for when the graduates received their diplomas. (lol, I have to add that I had called the school about the graduation ceremony being broadcast to the auditorium and they assured me it would be. Tickets weren't needed for the auditorium and that's were my sis-in-laws were headed, only to find out it wasn't going to be broadcast in there. They had watched Melissa's graduation 2 years ago from the auditorium)
I'll mention to Melissa to talk to Ashely about adding names to her list, but please mention it to Ashley also in your letters.
It goes without saying that this offer is greatly greatly appreciated!!

Carol.

I will talk to my family tomorrow at church and see if they plan on coming. Right now I'm thinking they probably won't. I will tell Ashley in the letter I send her on Monday.

Please don't rush your family on a decision. I'm sure things will work out for me.
But isn't it nice to know that time is running out for a decision!
