Amazing how a letter from boot camp can make your day. Each day I've been hurrying to the mailbox to see if there might be a letter from my son. Today there was and I couldn't get in the house fast enough to open it up and see what he had to say. He sounds like he is getting along okay - he can't wait to get to PIR and liberty of course, but said each week is getting a little better. He had his wisdom teeth out last week but said it wasn't bad at all. He also said that the food was okay, but not big enough portions - amazing how your appitite grows with working out.
He also said he passed his swim qual and that he is doing light maintenance, cleaning and guard duty for the ship. He's making some friends and was sure to give his sister some advise for her upcoming boot camp adventure.
Now I can't wait till next week - maybe I'll get another letter. How exciting.

I had a stack of mail and it was small and really hidden, so I didn't dig for it, or for the hopes of it until I got in the house. Beside the fact that it was about 110 degrees outside - needed to get inside. But oh how it was worth the wait.

So good to hear you got your first bootcamp letter. That is truely a memory I will hold deep in my heart when I rec'd my first --- it was the Friday before Christmas -- what a fabulous Christmas gift that I rec'd. I remember when I saw it, I sat outside right near the front door and read it over and over and over again. It truely made my day. It is a very fond memory that I hold dear to my heart. So congrats on your first letter, and I'm sure there will me many more to come with each passing week. God Bless.

It is great getting that first letter and how wonderful that it was an upbeat one. I was lucky as I never got a letter where my son was unhappy while at boot camp. Hope you get one every week from now on.

I remember getting my first letter reading it standing by the mailbox and calling my daughter (my Sailor's sister) telling her I got a letter. I was crying so hard that she thought something was wrong. Then reading the letter to her I was crying and trying to tell her they were "happy tears".
What a flood of emotions. I don't think that anything in my life has had the emotions of my son being in bootcamp. Every letter he wrote had a different view of bootcamp and I carried that emotion until the next letter.
Just know that he is fine and every letter shows that they are stronger.
