Our son Sean is in school to be a Hospital Corpsman. His PIR was March 9th. He moved to the Corps school almost immediately after PIR. The program is done at your own pace.

Patty, thanks. I'll have to give that a shot.
seansfamily, great, how is he liking it? I received a call from Staci last night. She is still loving everything about the Navy. They haven't gotten into much of the class material yet. Sounds like alot of physical training still. She said she had to run with another female over her shoulder in the sand at the beach area yesterday. She sounded pretty tired, but happy!

Sean calls every day. He really enjoys it especially since he now is in phase 3. When he started school, he complained that there wasn't enough PT but since the weather is warmer they do it more often. He doesn't like the food on that side of the base but I guess they eat alot of carryout or go to the mall.

My son graduated Corpsman A school last dec 19, when he went there after b/c he waited 4 weeks before he started school. Things got better, they were able to have cell phones right away, civilian clothes in the barracks in a week, and wear them outside in 2 weeks, and full liberty in 3 weeks. tell your son good luck, study hard. he chose the best and most decorated rate in the Navy.

Justin says they can wear civies now. Liberty is over at 9:45 each night for now. Phase 2 liberty is midnight, phase 3 is overnites. How far are they allowed to go for liberty ? Classes are suppose to start Jan.22 he has a graduation date set for May 1st. But I already know things can change.

to leave base you have to go with a buddy, now dont quote me but i think it was 300 miles over the weekend, we lived like 30 miles from g/l, so he would come home sometimes and bring people with him, and we went up there sometimes and took him and some of his buddys out for dinner. my son currently is at camp pendleton for fmss.

Hi everyone!! My husband graduates on the 25th I have a feeling that his school (HM) might be on hold also. So my question is if his school is on hold will he be able to come home for a few weeks or will he have to stay in GL?

no, he wont be able to go home while he's on hold. more than likely he will go home if there are any upcoming holidays or after he graduates. if you live close enough to GL then he could go home on the weekends when he's on liberty. im not sure how long it takes to get overnight liberty in GL, though. my a school was in pensacola.

unfortunately he wouldn't beable to come home, they have them standing watch, cleaning, pt'ing etc. they will prob get full liberty in 3 weeks or so, where they can leave base, with a buddy. u might want to bring his cell phone with to pir, and a couple civilian clothes, he might be able to have them right away, if not ask your husband what he wants u to ship to him so its ready to go when u get his address. any other questions feel free, i will say, when he classes up, tell him to keep focused, and study hard, keep on the straight and narrow, a number of people were declassed for partying and doing some stupid stuff. best of luck, any thing i can help with just ask. have a good day. Thanks alot guys for the information. Last night around 10pm I got a 30 min. phone call from him. He said the longest his school will be on hold will be a week or so. He asked me not to bring anything to graudation- his lap top or clothes becasue he will have to stay at the R.T.C until the 30th of Jan. and space was limited. I'm going to bring his cell phone and a few of his x mas gifts just in case he wanted to change into something else while at the hotel.

my son graduated corp school dec 19 so i'll try and help. g/l is the only A school the navy has, so he will stay at g/l, but will move to the main base, school is normally 14 weeks, but that is not saying he will start as soon as he moves over to corp school after pir. my son waited 4 weeks before he started. there are other schools after he can go to, my son is currently at camp pendleton for field medical service school(fmss), which is about 7-9 weeks long. any other questions i will try and answer to the best of my knowledge. best of luck to you and your boyfriend.
