Hey everybody,

I just got into DEP a couple weeks ago, and got the IT rating. I'm from TX/FL, currently living in OK. I decided I was getting older and wanted the experience the Navy would provide, so I'm enlisting. I did well on the asvab, got a 97, and I can help anybody who is nervous about it. Just PM me or reply here.

I'm 28 and did not expect to be doing this so I let my health slide a bit during my 20's... So, my personal challenge is to get into better shape before I ship out on March 7th. Currently running at a rate of 9:05 min/mile.

I'm 90% done with a bachelor's in the natural sciences, and am very focused in finishing that or starting something to do with IT while i'm in the Navy. If anyone has any personal or second-hand experience or info on completing school while you're serving active duty, I would appreciate it.

My rating sounds good to me, but it seems like a total crapshoot as far as where i'll end up or what I'll be doing after A-school.

I've picked up a couple books on getting A+/Sec+/Net+ certification but don't expect to be able to mess with that until after my first deployment I guess. Since I hear I will need to focus on being qualified for lots of ship positions, I'm not sure what the term for that is.

Anyway, I'm honored to be here even in the DEP and I'm going to bust my ass to prep myself for this big change coming my way.

Welcome Aboard!

Steve, one of our mods and in-house IT2 can give you advice/info regarding school while Active Duty. Additionally, he can advice you regarding A+ and the other certifications you mentioned.

As far as where you will be assigned after A School. It is determined by the needs of the Navy.

lol ya, I haven't had my first DEP meeting yet with the recruiters but from what I've seen I think I may be the oldest person they have waiting to go, and I think I'm ready to act as division 'grandpa' should I need to at RTC.

I've heard CTR is one of the better CT ratings to get, so grats man.

Thomsen I ship out a day before you! Good luck! :)

You're not the oldest, well maybe at your NRS. I'm 26 and one of the other females at my NRS is 31.
