Hello! I came across this forum on a Google search and thought it might be a better place to get info rather than the DEP facebook group I'm in.
I swore in on July 6th and leave March 5th. At first I wanted to leave earlier but now I've accepted my ship date. I get to spend more time with my friends and family. Of course it gives me more time to get in physical shape too and learn all I can before I go. I've got a lot of the Start Guide down aside from ships/aircraft. I bought a Blue Jacket's Manual a few weeks ago and have been reading that as well.
My rate is AG. At first I wanted HM (I've done basic health care for a few years and wanted to be a RN. I still might want to, it depends on how involved with AG I get!), but the more I read about AG's the more excited I get. I've seen a few AG mom's on the forum so I'm excited to get a good prospective.

I'm one of the AG moms and welcome to the rating!! Michael was always interested in the weather, etc. and is still going through a lot of training for it. Good luck!
Welcome Aboard!
I wouldn't worry with the Blue Jacket's Manual just yet, way too much info to asborb in that book initially.
I'd focus on your DEP study guide and get all of your memory work completed and learned before branching out. Just a suggestion.

I'm still studying the START guide, but I wanted to read The Bluejacke's Manual too. I figured it won't hurt.
VaBchMom, how does he like it? Also, what are the advancement opportunities like?

He really likes what he's doing now as a matter of fact. Advancement is going to be really rough as it's 's an extremely overmanned rating.

That's my biggest fear about the rate.

Thank you :) It's hard to find any info about AG's so to come across anyone with first hand knowledge is great.

Well don't skip out of the good stuff though.
What Sue didn't tell you was that when her son made AG2 he was one of approx 11 AG3's that were advanced.
I'm sure Sue will correct me if I am wrong on the numbers.

Wow. That's a small number to be advanced. I'd be shouting about it too! Congrats to him.

from the little time i was in boot camp, my RDC's told us to put our BlueJackets manual in our rack and not even worry about touching it until near the end of bootcamp. everything you're going to need to know for bootcamp will be in the...oh god if the Petty Officers knew i forgot the name of that first book you study out of they would be making me do 8 counts right now...training manual maybe?
anyway point is dont even worry about the bluejackets...you will have plenty of other things to learn before you even open that book.
