Wow!! A couple of us (who shall remain nameless..) wrote enough postings in Gallery Talk to come to a total of 176 posts last week!! YIKES!! Okay, I'll admit that I was one of them. It's strange reading the beginning of it when I was talking about going to the beach and most of the rest of it was all about Hurricane Irene. Glad the storm is gone and now comes the picking up. Spent a lot of time chatting with Michael over the weekend and he really hates having to miss these storms. I can't wait till we get away from here now and not have to deal with them every summer. He would love to be back on this coast and I'd like to get out at this point. Dan talked to his mom who's still in Upstate NY and the flooding, etc. really has him concerned but his mom is doing okay at this point. What bugs the heck out of him is all of the tv time of a certain city in that state that got most of the reporting about it and it didn't get hit badly. People are not getting how bad it really is elsewhere in that state.
Well, it's back to normal this week! Last week it was all about the hurricane and earthquake, now there's nothing but work.
Over the weekend, I did my normal Applebee's barstool thing, enjoyed my beer and drinking buddies.
I am looking forward to a long 3 day weekend!!!

Just a heads up...there are more storms developing out there and not good news to hear. Right now I wish it were October/November and to be out of hurricane seaon 2012.
Yep, I saw that. Tropical Depression 12. It should become a hurricane on Thursday morning and roughly, it appears to heading to the Southeast unless it take a hard right?!

I'm already so over hurricanes and not wanting to talk about them believe me. We don't need another one coming anywhere near here for a long time (I know, wishful thinking).
In your travels since Irene left, have you seen much damage around Virginia Beach?
VaBchMom
08-29-2011, 04:52 PM
Actually haven't been far from the house since the storm. Basically just right around where I live. Lots of branches, twigs, leaves etc. Also a tree that's already been chopped up. I've also seen a bunch of siding from houses, etc.

I've been busy, I partied HARD last night (too hard) and went on a date with my future girlfriend today. finished up the day with a beer at ruby tuesdays. had some cute, but mildly older (late 20s, early 30s) girls kept talking to me and such; all in good favor just general chit chat about football and such because our bartender was pretty legit.
Now I'm back home and hanging out for the night...
deciding if I should shave my awesome beard now or in the morning

Sounds like you had a pretty darn good day or two! Back to work though tomorrow, eh? ;)

I have that problem too...

I generally only shave on Sunday evenings, unless I have to go to court during the week or if the urge hit me to do so. Of course, I have that luxury.
VaBchMom
08-30-2011, 09:32 AM
That sounds close to Dan's schedule (except for going to court) except he's normally Monday.
MacSteve
08-30-2011, 09:58 AM

yea its in DC. I'll leave here October 14th and have 5 days to make it to MS..then on the 24th I'll fly over to DC.. Event on the @26th
DK, soon as i get to the ship i'll get you a cover buddy.

What is being said is that this storm will be running into some resistance so it'll probably be pushed and sent more north and shouldn't be an issue. No more hurricanes is all I'm going to hope everyone keeps saying and/or they go anywhere but NC and north. We won't be in the peak of the season for a couple of weeks either.

Cool. So, in other words, you have ~45 days to relax before you join the real Navy again, huh?
Do you know approximately when the ship is suppose to PCS to San Diego? Sharon and I are planning on driving down to hook up with you before you head to California as I know we won't see you when you are on the left coast! Between school, rent, books, plus our own living expenses we couldn't afford the costs of 2 tickets out there.
MacSteve

I know we are scheduled to commission in May..so probably prior to march is when I'll be available because of sea trials and all that.
Oh, sea trials. Love them, NOT!!!!
Cool! We of course, will let you get settled in down there with the crew and command before we invade.
We'll try to plan something for January/February time frame.
MacSteve
08-30-2011, 01:59 PM
sounds good to me. that way i can learn my way around the ship and such too so i'm not getting all lost leading you guys around haha
Great! Looking forward to a vist!

I would have said that can 2 more join ya but our calendar has us out there early in the year so that we can drive Michael's truck home. He doesn't want it sitting out there. Dan and I and I are going "ROAD TRIP!!!!" except we wish it wasn't taking place then.

The 55 ships sent out to sea to avoid Irene are beginning to return to the piers today. They will be coming back through the week....

Where's Michael going? Does he deploy with a squadron or air group?
That will be an interesting cross country trip.

And we'll possibly be dealing with another hurricane/tropical storm...the end of hurricane season '11 can't come soon enough. Had the Open House at school last night...OMG was it crowded and had very little down time to catch our breaths. Tonight we have to go to the convention center to get Dan's # and the swag bag (all runners get one) for his 1/2 marathon run on Sunday. We're thinking of going to the ballgame tomorrow night also and we then have to be at the amphitheater to catch the buses to the Oceanfront by like "0 dark thirty a.m." which is so much fun...NOT! He's hoping to beat his time from the last 1/2 marathon one he ran in March.;)
Pass along our good luck in the 1/2 marathon to Dan.
We don't have a big weekend plan, just chilling, sleeping late and of course for me. Beer. Really, a pretty usual weekend, just a longer one.

Boy, this is a pretty boring day so far...other than keeping an eye on the weather for next week (Katia). The other day they were telling us that this thing was due to basically head away from us..now they're not so sure. Hurricane season...move along out of here, k?

4 day weekend for me :).
I got off the USO this morning at 9am..the director is always happy when i work. I did some IT work for her too and designed and implemented a new and more efficient way to keep track of volunteer hours via microsoft excel.
I just woke up so I'm going to pack my stuff up and head to the beach.. I'm addicted to the book Spy by David Wise.. all about robert hanssen and such. I've been reading it for 2 days and I'm halfway done.
so at the beach I'll be tanning and reading this, and then I'll go running down the sand and swim my way back.
what a great day :)

Using Excel/spreadsheets as a database is sooooooo 70's. Man-up, learn how to write relational-databases using Access, VBA and SQL. :p

Talked to Michael last night...Dan and I went to Buffalo Wild Wings for the first time in quite awhile and he was asking what sauce, etc. and what he thought was the best one. Also said to remember to call him and let him know how Dan does tomorrow in the 1/2 marathon (we forgot to call him right after getting home) and he was hot about that. We promised we would.
MacSteve
09-03-2011, 11:17 AM
awesome! I'm probably heading to the beach today because i have nothing else to do.. everybody is either working or has family in town. I know a few people might want to catch a movie so thats in the running to...
tell dan good luck on the 1/2 marathon! I'd end up injured to be honest with you.

Wish we could have done the beach today, but going to the ballgame tonight. We'll see how things are tomorrow and maybe we'll head to the beach early afternoon. Thanks Steve - will pass along the good luck and this is his 3 one and talking of doing another one in Vegas. where they run it at night. Enjoy your weekend and if you want to come over for some food give me a holler as you're more than welcome, k?

How bout we plan on it possibly next weekend? We're going out for dinner tonight and we've got plans for tomorrow unfortunately. I know it's not going to be a 3 day weekend but after the ballgame (that went into an extra inning last night plus some great fireworks) which meant we didn't get home until close to 11:15 and then we had to be up and on the way to our parking location in VB for transportation down to the Oceanfront about 5 a.m., we're being very lazy today. It's also our anniversary today so we're going out for dinner about 5-5:30.
Happy Anniversary! How many years?

hit up a harley dealership today thats a bit further away. real nice place
picked up a shirt & a facemask from there so thats cool...
one of the salesman (a retired senior chief) seems to think my bike was special ordered and never picked up until it was sold to me.. Say's he's never seen another wide glide (my model) with the same color scheme.
bout to go wash n wax her, eat at the galley..and then probably ride around and find a bar to have a beer at
Well, Sharon and I are about to leave for Applebees for my beer fest.

We just celebrated 24 years!! Enjoyed my fav restaurant and we actually ate outside for the first time...it was shady and a nice breeze and it was great. Talked to Michael while we were heading there and we were telling him about how much fun we had while at the ballgame last night. He said the Padres set off fireworks too (although ours were because it's the end of the season). The season will officially be done tomorrow evening. However, due to storms rolling in, I'm sure that's not going to happen.
