It's still so sad to see all of the families and the Navy itself dealing with the helicopter crash and the loss of lives. Talked to Michael and DIL over the weekend and nothing much going on with either of them right now. Dan is off this week and is doing some repairs of the house in back that have been on the to-do list but just didn't get to them. We're going back to the awful heat/humidity again. Last night we were getting a really awsome lightening when we went upstairs and it went on for a long time.
MacSteve
08-08-2011, 12:25 PM
yea its horrible. Truly Truly is.
You...a rebel????
continuing..
yea I'm a total rebel, last night I rode around in nothing except my helmet, tank top, shorts and sperry's at about sundown.
Humidity thing is horrible down here as well. Getting out of the car, walking about 30 feet to the door of Applebees, I looked like I had went through a car wash.

And it's going to be this way for days....:sooohot:
MacSteve

yea..its not too bad. Not when your AC is your throttle:cool::cool:
VaBchMom
08-09-2011, 09:13 AM
We're also still dealing with smoke issues from the fire in the Great Dismal Swamp...it's really bad today and we could really use a nice long rain shower just about now (except it can't rain as Dan's still working under the house.

Everyone decide to go on vacation/take leave from the Cafe? Way too quiet for way too long. :bigemo54:
I'm here. Just been a busy morning, been running around the office like a chicken with it's head cut off. Putting out small fires here and there before they become larger fires. This afternoon should be a little quieter though. Hopefully?!

just got the email yesterday from the local Patriot Guard Riders Chapter for the recently deceased SOC Kevin A. Houston of SEAL Team 6.
They have been requested to show face at the memorial service and I want to attend. Already got the approval from work (fastest chit approval ever) and now I just sent for some more details from the ride captain.
I can't even begin to Imagine the magnitude of people that are going to be there...
I'm praying those Westboro church people or any protestors don't show.. Theres going to be tons of SEALs and people of all sorts of ranks there.
Great going Steve!! I will be there with you in spirit!!!
If the westboro nuts are there, just ignore them and help give the families the dignity they deserve!
BZ!

I hope you hear something soon Steve.....
MacSteve
08-09-2011, 09:40 PM
Nothing yet..all I'm trying to figure out is if this is a ride or just a location to line up and show respect and where I have to mount the 3'x5' flag... come on lady
VaBchMom
08-09-2011, 10:50 PM
Let us know what you find out Steve. On a different note, just talking to Michael and he was saying how "chilly" it is out in CA right now. It's 68° out there right now and we are 85° at almost 11 p.m. And the smoke from the Dismal Swamp (many miles from here) was pretty bad today.
MacSteve
08-09-2011, 11:07 PM
i heard about the haze around the va beach area. I haven't been out to go check it out yet.. wanted to after I hit the gym... and then I realized that jello legs probably should not lead to bike riding lol
VaBchMom
08-10-2011, 09:36 AM
How are we doing today Mr. Jello-Legs? The smoke didn't stick around my part of VB but I heard it was really bad down towards the mall and beyond.
My hip muscles are sore as hell this morning. Apparently, according to Sharon, I was kicking A LOT in my sleep last night, although I don't remember any of it. It really hurts just to walk down the hallways of the building. My lunch time walk will not be pleasant today.
VaBchMom
08-10-2011, 10:09 AM
I'm sure the walk won't be DK. Dan's come up with a few new projects re the the house just because I think he really worships at the House of Home Depot/Lowes. He goes there and comes home with all kinds of new ideas on what we could do with _______ (fill in the blank). And of course it also entails getting another toy, oops, I mean tool so that he can make it happen.
My hips hurt so bad right now, I feel like I should be in my '70's instead of 40's.
I have no idea what, or why, I was kicking at last night, but I sure do feel it today.
The most intricate thing I do for house maintenance is screw in a light buld or change filters. Sharon might let me apply some spackle when needed, but that requires her special permission before I can attempt it.
VaBchMom
08-10-2011, 12:23 PM
Wouldn't make it over here then....he's outside still working under the house and on the area by the fireplace. We agreed that we didn't smell any smoke anymore (it's still around though apparently), the humidity seems a little higher today than yesterday, but it's a couple of degrees cooler (but you don't notice much of a difference). Told him we're going to the beach tomorrow and hopefully boogie-board a lot. If not, we're floating on them out in the water. The cat hasn't been interested in going out for days...but then she's got a poop-palace inside so why would she dream of going out?
MacSteve
08-10-2011, 01:49 PM
todays pretty good, I killed at ultimate frisbee this morning. must have had atleast 4 blocks.
Looks like this memorial service tomorrow is a go. I will be showing up in Civilian Garb because I don't want to try and draw attention to myself or anything; and I'm there out of my own want with the Patriot Guard Riders..not for military reasons.
I got a confirmed Seat in SRF-A today (Security Reaction Force-Advanced)..Starts on August 22nd. I'm excited for that, lots of shooting and stuff.
Also got finished with Chapter 2 (80 pages in) with my security + studying.. I was a little upset becuase on the end chapter test I scored 13/20..but then I realized that this stuff is no joke and I knew 0/20 before I started..so If after 3-4 some odd days of reading I learn 13/20 questions..thats definitely good progress.
now to find a 3' X 5' flag to hold on the flag line tomorrow.

I hate to admit it, but we make CAC jokes everyday. It all started by and instructor asking if we all grabbed our CACs and now the madness will never end.. Lol

Dan's about 98% done with the project now. He's been back and forth to Home Depot so much that his truck shouldn't have to be steered by him...it'll head there automatically.
Nothing much going on with Sharon and I. Just working, same o, same o!

Back to just the 2 of us again DK....where are all of the people that used to regularly post here all of the time (including Retired Navy Chief). He hasn't been around for months. Folks just don't seem to be chatty anymore.
That's what it appears? Steven from Chattanooga and a several others that have went through Boot Camp and then disappear.
Guess you, Steve and I are the core of the forum now. Steve, I guess is either getting ready for or is attending (as a patriot guard rider) the funeral right now for a Seal in Virginia Beach.
VaBchMom
08-11-2011, 12:50 PM
That's right (re Steve). And yup, it's just the 3 of us for the most part....sad, but I'm not going anywhere.....scary thought, huh? We're not smelling the smoke today which is great....it shifted down to the Outer Banks.
Bet the outter banks is thrilled with that. :)
VaBchMom
08-11-2011, 01:39 PM
Tit-for-Tat....earlier in the summer they sent some our ways and that wasn't fun.
I didn't realize that the Outer Banks was that close to Virginia Beach. I just did a google map and it is only 93 miles. I knew Outer Banks were more northern on the coast, but just didn't realize how close it was.

Great to hear! Go and have fun, you've done your duty for the day!!!

Obviously I didn't go crazy and try to snap pictures of any of the service attendees and stuff..not only do I want to avoid being killed and never found again..but thats disrespectful.
also Sue, keep an eye out on the Virginia Pilot..my bike might be in it..the photographer spent a good 10 minutes sitting on the ground behind me taking all sorts of pictures and when I finally got off the bike to say hi and ask what he was doin he jotted down all my information and told me my bike could make it in

the bottom picture is the escort from the family, they escorted them to/from their house and such... just about all of the escorts were SEALs that ride....take notice of the numerous custom choppers and Heavily modified Harley's are in that group lol.

08-11-2011, 08:38 PM

I would be on the lookout for an article about the patriot guard riders or the memorial services and stuff

The only picture was from outside of Atlantic Shores Baptist Church in Virginia Beach at the memorial service for a CPO (whose name is given) from Massachusetts. The picture is of a line of flags held by about 10 Patriot Guards. I checked the rest of the paper and didn't see any other photos. If you look on piilotonline.com, that's the picture that's in the paper.
Looks like the Patriot Guard Riders had a good turn-out. Did any of the nut-jobs show up? I certainly hope not!

It doesn't matter Steve - you were there for all of us and that's what's important.
MacSteve
08-12-2011, 09:56 AM
yea.. for sure.
No, no protestors showed up, they were in DC or something like that.
I kind of want to be there during one of the funerals they protest at, I'm curious how the PGR react... I'd imagine we would set a perimeter with our motorcycles and blast music & engines (depending on how long they would be sitting) and then make a manned perimeter about 25ft in front of that.
Yep, you definately was representing me yesterday and I do appreciate it as I couldn't obviously be there.
I'm very glad, especially for the families, that the nutjobs were not there, for whatever reason.
You know, it times like that when the nutjobs are protesting a service members funeral that I really wish a drunk driver would come down the street and take them all out. Not that I wish death on anyone, however, I could almost wish it upon them. Almost!
MacSteve

breaking news: drunk driver mauls group of military protestors... his identity is rumored to not be known..sources tell us he made it home safely. lol

Believe it or not, I'm going to miss my time with my favorite barstool at Applebees tonight. I know, I'm not following my normal routine. Of course, if someone was out to assassinate me, it wouldn't be hard for them to figure out where I am based upon what time it is.
Tonight, Sharon and I are going to do dinner at Olive Garden! Oh, and beer, of course.
Tomorrow afternoon, we will be working around the house, doing some cleanup, etc.
Tomorrow evening, I will again have my barstool time at Applebees and beer.
Sunday afternoon, take it easy, relax and chill out. Probably need to brush the bun's down as it's been a few weeks since we have done that. Of course, if we find something else that is more fun to do, we may do that instead.
Sunday evening, I will of course get my Applebee barstool time and beer.
All good!

Change is good once in awhile DK. Dan hasn't stopped with all kinds of "things" that need to be done (like where was all of this when I was in the mood to help, suggest, etc.? I've just left him to do whatever cause he wasn't listening to me anyways. I'd have preferred going to the beach myself, but nope he's been working on something outside. We haven't even done our normal Friday Night going out in ages. Whoa is me.
Every Friday night we go to Applebees for dinner. On Saturday and Sunday, we do't normally eat there, I just do my beer thing with the other bar regulars.
There are some things that I need to get done outside, trim some bushes back, but the heat is what it is, so I keep finding excuses. Of course, I also need to clean the gutters out, but refuse to get on the roof as I'm not confident that it will hold me and I will fall through the roof because of the hail damage.
MacSteve

Heading to the beach now and party hardy later.
I kind of laid down the line if you will on this girl I've been talking to so we'll see if she shows. If not oh well there are tons more.

Got home from the beach about 2:30 and took a shower to get rid of the sand/salt and ahhhh...feel better already! There wasn't the crowds that we thought would be there so we had plenty of room. Had a great time boogie-boarding and while not able to ride them all the way in like normal, we still managed to go quite a way.
Well, it's almost 4pm, so we are about to head to Applebees to enjoy a few brews and my barstool.
I enjoy a beer or 2 for you guys, or maybe 6 or 7. Never know.
Talk to everyone later!

Daughter just texted that they're about 45 minutes from home. She a friend went down to Jacksonville, NC to visit a friend (the guy is in the Army) and they graduated together and he took her to Prom). They also went down to Myrtle Beach for the day. She'll probably come home and crash and we won't see her till tonight.

The 4 of us went down there every August for several years and always stayed from Monday through Sunday morning. We always stayed at the Dayton House but we stopped doing that a couple of years ago. I think the last time we went was when we had our trip cut short - the year the hurricane came through and we were all ordered out of there in the middle of the night. MB wanted the tourists basically out of MB in case Hurricane Charley was a bad one. We drove home with Charley catching up to us after we had already made it back. We keep saying (Dan & I) that we'll go back but we just haven't as yet.
