The news this morning about the death of Osama bin Laden was absolutely unbelievable to hear. Son is training again and I'm wondering if they've told them what has happened overnight.
That was great news, just wondering how complicit the Pakastani government was in hiding him?

One way or another we'll not hear about their part until sometime in the future, you know?
Unfortuately, while we are still paying them billions of borrowed dollars for their "support".

I've talked to him now....he was out for a late dinner when he heard the news.

Where is everyone today? The board sure is quiet today.....and the amount of info that has come out about where the SEALS were based, etc. is I think is entirely too much out there at this point.
Yeah, I had heard they are Virginia Beach based. I hope no one in the DOD or the Navy is stupid enough to name the seals regardless if it was by accident or on purpose. That would result in a crosshair being placed on the seals and their families.
I would assume and hope that names along with their mission details are top secret!!

Spent the majority of the day polishing the brightwork on the Challenger ... I hate polishing my wheels but God, they look good !!
Sitting at work ... supervising some late night contract workers. They're still making noise in the shop so I guess they haven't lopped off an arm or blown themselves up yet ...
Worked with a couple SEALs who were / are a part of DEVGRU (Team 6). Great guys and fantastic SEALs. They are undoubtedly the cream of the crop. Would love to know a fraction of what they do.
Cheers,
PISTOL

is DEVGRU really Team 6? I thought DEVGRU are the guys who go out and test all the new stuff coming to the military
Everything that I have read says yes. Here is an article that I was reading this morning:
http://hamptonroads.com/2011/05/va-beachbased-seals-tasked-taking-out-bin-laden
But don’t expect to see any victory parades or gala homecomings for those SEALs. Team 6 is one of the most secretive outfits in the entire U.S. military, Trevithick said. All of its operations are classified.
Even its name is hard to pin down. Even though it’s still commonly referred to as SEAL Team 6, it is now formally known as Naval Special Warfare Development Group, or DEVGRU for short. It is based at Oceana Naval Air Station’s Dam Neck Annex in Virginia Beach.

DK - is it too early for a nice cold something to drink at this time of day? With the teachers luncheon planning/purchasing, I am so ready for one and it's only after 1:00 in the afternoon....

Well, I'm drinking nice cold water out of the water cooler, but I suspect that's not what you are talking about! :)
The gates go up for me at 4pm. Never drink before 4pm. Although I have tried to get around that rule by pointing out to Sharon that it's 4PM somewhere, but I never win though. :(

I've been drinking cold water too and now after selling cookies like I normally do, I'm really wanting else. I'll just drink my bottle of water and sit in front of a fan and pretend I'm anywhere but here right now.
I do a minimum of 130 oz per day....
of water that is....
VaBchMom
05-03-2011, 03:09 PM
That's good! I drink a lot of water too and I do love iced tea.
I drink unsweet, but not as much as I used to. I used to drink at least a gallon a day on a Saturday, but haven't done that in a long while, I burned myself out on it.
I don't drink cokes or pepsi, etc, so it's just water, an occasional ginger ale and beer.
VaBchMom
05-03-2011, 03:17 PM
I never thought I could but I have had exactly 2 Dr. Peppers in the last year. Slowly giving up sweet tea and just adding some Equal or something similar to my plain iced tea. I never drank a gallon in a day () but it does get old sometime just having water.
When I start to get bored with the water, I take the water bottle and add a flavoring to it. That helps me a lot otherwise, I get an unsweet tea and just sip on it instead of drinking it.
Of course, when I'm drinking my beer, I tend to have water with me and will drink both (I especially try to do this when I'm sitting on my bar stool at Applebees).

i drink 2-3 standard size water bottles and 1-2 cups of water with each meal...however many oz that equals idk..
but my pee is always clear :)

Going to be a nasty day tomorrow weather-wise, oh yay....NOT!

05-04-2011, 08:29 AM
Originally we were supposed to have t-storms today but now it's looking more like some rain but it won't be a total wash-out. Tomorrow will have a lot more sun and then possible storms again on Friday. As long as it isn't raining tomorrow for Dan's trips back and forth to Cheeseburger-in-Paradise, I'll be a happy camper.
We were suppose to have rain all day, so I'm not sure what happend to the rain forecast, but hey, I'm happy with it. Although it could be a tad bit warmer, but it is what it is...
VaBchMom
05-04-2011, 10:07 AM
We were warmer early this morning...we're now down to the mid-50's and it's not raining right now but we know that'll change.
That's what happened here yesterday. We hit our high about 7am (70*) and it dropped all day. By the time I left work yesterday afternoon, it was 55* and still falling.

:woohoo: Been finalizing and checking to make sure that everything is going to go well for the teachers luncheon tomorrow. We're using Cheeseburger-in-Paradise for our food and we've got the coolest gifts for the teachers that ties in so well twith our menu. Corri and I do believe that we've out-done ourselves this year (we say this every year, but this year - can't wait till this all happens tomorrow. Dan's just glad that it wasn't today due to the rain we've been having most of the day. He's not minding getting wet - he just knows I sweat the load if things aren't going as planned.

Boy, has this been a dreary day. And a lack of postings is making it go ever-so-slow.
Yes, it has been slow today and boring. So, I've been trying to find a new insurance company for the house and cars today. That is interesting. I feel like I'm being interrogated by the insurance companies.
-Do you have pit bulls?
-Do you have any dogs?
-Do you have any cats?
-Do you have a trampoline?
-Do you have a fireplace?
-Do you have a front porch? If so, is it made out of wood?
-How big is your front porch?
-Does your front porch have a roof?
-Do you have a back porch? If so, is it made out of wood?
-How big is your back porch?
-Does your back porch have a roof?
-How far do you drive to work each day?
-How far does your wife drive to work each day?
-How far does your son drive to school each day?
-What percentage of your house is hardwood flooring?
-What percentage of your house is carpeted?
-What percentage of your house is covered with something besides hardwood or carpet?
-How old is your heatpump?
-How old is your roof?
I promise all I'm trying to do is get cheaper rates....!!!

DK - think those answers will help?
No, I don't those answers will work. :)
When I told one of the agents that Sharon works from home? He was like "oh, she's a housewife?" I said no, she works for a local hospital, i.e., she telecommutes. I had to explain it in detail to him as he seemed to not have a clue.

While a bunch of them do seem silly, they really aren't. If something serious happens to your home because of a storm, they're not going to just write you a blank check to spend any way you want to, they want to "make it right" for your loss. We pay less for our auto insurance because of the distance Dan travels to work isn't excessive for example and we get a multi-car discount because of the number of vehicles we have covered and if our daughter wasn't only 18, we'd be paying even less. I'm not saying that we should all be thrilled with what insurance costs, without it you'd be paying out-of-pocket for everything.

It's tedious, but I understand some of the questions, I mean, ok, I understand that you want to know if the house is electricity is based on a breaker or fuse box. I understand their need to understand how old the rook is. I understand if they want to know if I have a trampoline or a pit bull. But wow, is my wife a housewife? Didn't make sense to me.
So, Volkswagen pulled us all in today, announced that we are ramping up production, we will be getting a $1500 bonus next friday, and that our Volkswagen Tornado Relief fund reach the one billion dollar mark :)
Congratulations on the bonus. Use it wisely.
That's wonderful to hear about the relief fund. Lot's of people that can use the help right now.

Everything went great for our teacher luncheon today. My pick-up/delivery driver (Dan) did a great job like normal, the staff loved the food and their gifts and all-in-all it once again it was a great teachers luncheon and a fun time for all of us. :bigemo52:
Good, glad to hear that it went well. I was thinking about the event all this afternoon, when I remembered that it was going down. Perhaps you need to get a web capable phone to keep us up to date in real time. Of course, I'm not one to talk since I don't carry a cell phone at all. The one that Sharon carries isn't web capable either, just text and phone calls.
Congrats to you and your team and of course Dan for his help!!!

We rinsed out the big plastic containers that had the food in them and we did that in our backyard. I called Cheeseburger-in-Paradise and told them that we'd rinse them off with the hose in the backyard but that there was no way we could clean them thoroughly. Got told by them that rinsing them was okay so we let them air dry for a bit and then loaded them up and dropped them off. They also lowered the price on what we were supposed to pay by $50 since we hadn't gotten something we had ordered and I quickly agreed to THAT deal. We plan on using them again next year....

He may claim he doesn't want to do the pick-up/delivery, but secretly he loves doing it. LOL And believe me, both Michael and Sara (they both pay for their own phones) have much better phones than us and if Dan had his way we'd still be using 2 cans and some string.

Way too quiet around here. Plans for the weekend are staffing a yard sale in our community in support of Project Grad. We'll be trying to sell some boxes of books that have been in storage at the HS for about 2 years. We'll be on duty for 2 hours in the morning and guess who got roped into this one too?;) Tells me we owe him big-time for helping out again.
I haven't been around a while today as I took the day off to do some running around. At 4pm, will be doing some bar stool sitting at Applebees until 5:15, then we've got to head home get dressed and go to the college for the 7pm graduation ceremony. After that, we are having a nice dinner to celebrate.

Congratulations to your son on his graduation today. And congratulations to his parents for raising him and getting him to this point in his life. Job well done to all of you!!
We are here now being bored to death by a speaker who won't shut up and stop being boring.

Dan can't help at the community yard sale tomorrow..bummers! I'll be spending the 2 hours though with Corri's daughter and that'll give me a chance to catch up with her. I still think Dan begged to work instead of help out. Did the ceremony finally end DK?

Well.. its time to count down the days.. 16 to go.
On the ranks/recognition what do I need to know? Do I need to be able to describe them? Any advice?
And on the chain of command, do I need to know names as well? Any resources on that? These are the last two things I need to know. Im up to 35 pushups and 40 situps.. Thats a good start Id say.
THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT THUS FAR!
looks like I'm getting a NAM!
and e4 results come out next week! wish me luck!

We did only so-so at the sale, ended up dropping 99% of the books that were left at Salvation Army and one of the moms is dropping the rest off at a womens shelter. Bad part is that we still have a LOAD of books still left at school. I have a feeling that those of us with pick-ups will be making a trip to the same places in the next few weeks to get rid of the rest.

Yes, thankfully. The guy was alotted 12 minutes, he went on for 35 minutes! :itsatd: After about 20 minutes, a majority of the crowd started clapping hoping he would take the hint. Nope, he thanked the crowd and continued.
Well.. its time to count down the days.. 16 to go.

You're welcome! That's what we are here for. Send a PM to Acer or Brandi since they are the most recent graduates from our little slice of the web.
