Hi, I recently signed on the dotted line to be an SECF (Submarine Electronic/Computer Field) but it was the only job available so I signed. I really don't want to be on a Submarine!!! I leave for bootcamp in a few days and was wondering if there was a way to get out of being on a submarine even after signing on the dotted line? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

talk to your recruiter asap to switch your job, or don't do well in your A school and they will send you undesignated.

What if I tell them I'm claustrophobic during bootcamp?

If you only took the job because it was all they offered and you really just wanted in the Navy .... then say so. Pose your concern in the form of a question to your recruiter ... "Just supposing, hypothetically, you had a Depper who signed up for the same job I did but really didn't want to be a submariner ...... could they opt out of the submarine program without losing the good job ??"

The thing about sub duty is that they only want those volunteers who really want to be there. There is a fairly rigorous psychological profile that you will need to pass in order to be sent to a submarine. Pretty sure that when they hear you say that you don't want to be on a sub ... they'll take care of you from that point.
