Beginning another week and it looks like we'll be getting hit with more of that white stuff...is it close to Spring yet? Michael said last night that he's thinking of heading to Hawaii near the end of the month for a couple of days of vacation. I asked how willing he was to pay for me to head there too. ;) and he laughed. I'm taking that as a maybe?? LOL
We've got 3 inches of snow on top of about a half inch of ice and expecting more of both today and tonight!

DK - who figured we'd be talking so much about the wintry weather we're both experiencing since we normally don't get much of this stuff ever! Since I moved down here in '86, I only remember a couple of winters that we got this much. Cold weather yes, but not this cold, this much snow/ice...no. How many days till spring/summer??
We normally see snow, but usually not of any measurable amount until late January and February. Haven't seen this much snow since the blizzard of 1993.

We've had a couple of blizzards over the years but not the storm after storm after storm. And '10 was the hottest summer too so we didn't get a lot of moisture so I guess we're making up for that deficit now. Turn the spigot off any time now.

Was out on the roads as I HAD to Express Mail something to Maia. She needed some info that I had to send her (why me??) so got that taken care of. The roads aren't at all bad where I was going and I've already agreed to sell cookies this afternoon like normal. I don't know why they needed the 2 hour delay today to open the schools.
We ended up with 4.5 inches of snow Sunday through this morning. The roads are touch and go right now. I came to work, but will probably leave early before the roads start freezing when the temps start falling.

Just got home from selling cookies like normal at the high school and the roads right now are just wet. Worried if it all freezes though later on.
supposed to get 12-20 inches tonight! looks like the base will be shut down tomorrow!

I just want it out of here and so sorry it's heading up north. Dan's family in Ustate NY I'm sure is sick of it also according to his mom. Actually, Dan's not sick of the white stuff, he just gets to the point of hating having to work in it.
Yeah, it sucks to work on... the finger piers freeze up, so when you go to moore up the HSB boats, you REALLY have to be careful or you'll fall in the drink.
Holy Cow, 12-20 inches of snow. You guys are getting slammed, aren't you? Be careful up there, especially when on duty!
I guess I can stop whining about our 4.5 inches here in Knoxville.
haha, yes we are getting SLAMMED!

Blue skies and sunny....but it would be a whole lot nicer if it were about 25-30° warmer around here. Sunny skies though are a definite improvement.
We just got some sun. I was like "what is that strange sensation..."? We woke up this morning to more snow on the roads.
Guess it would be worse though, like what Seth is getting slammed with!

My folks live in the Asheville, NC area and they've been slammed with snow. They built a home in the mountains and lived there for several years. All of us finally convinced them to move off the mountain and settle closer to town and they're much happier. Not with all of the snow they've gotten this winter though....
I read in our local paper that Asheville (about 100 miles east of Knoxville) has been paralyzed by the snow, which I would assume is rather amazing considering they are used to getting snow.

I forgot that you aren't that far from Asheville. I hear you though...they regularly get that white stuff and it's hard to believe that they can be paralyzed by it!

DK - maybe we should put out there a reminder of the get-together that is planned in the Spring and see if any of our new members would be interested in attending. Just a thought.......
Good idea, I'll do that now!

I'm sure several of them have got to have good memories of Norfolk...:bigemo55:
I'll bet they do, I know I do. Other than an ACCM, I haven't seen to may more that are currently Norfolk.
Retired Navy Chief, are you coming to Norfolk?! (wow, with all of these Chief's now, I just can't say Chief anymore?)

Nope ... not coming. Too damn cold !! I like it just fine here in Tejas !! ;)
There's only one "Pistol" .... I answer to that these days ('cept to my wife ... I still make her call me Chief just to keep her in line !! ... you ain't buying that, are you ?)
Cheers,

Well, I'm sure it will be much warmer in May than it is now! In fact, in it may be cooler in Norfolk in May than in Texas!
No, I don't buy it! If you tried to, she may add something to the 'honey-do' list as punishment.

Ya got that one right DK about it probably being cooler here in May than it is down in Teas. We've actually hit the beach in April (we did so last year for example) so you might want to change your mind Chief!
I didn't think the water would be warm enough to hit the beach in early May. That's good to know....
VaBchMom
01-14-2011, 03:47 PM
I'll clarify about the water....not one of my little toes goes into that water in April. WAY TOO CHILLY. But we do put our bathing suits on and spread out the towels like normal and just catch some rays for about an hour or so. That's what I meant. Dan has tried to convince me to do the Polar Plunge every year and I keep telling him if he does I might. Hasn't happened yet..........
Ok, got it. Shorts ok, swimming in ocean, not ok!

Ahhhh ... Saturday morning and I have the duty of watching my boys while Mrs. Pistol and the girls do their Girl Scout thing.
We're helping little brother learn his colors better ... When he gets it right we do jumping jacks for the reward ... gets it wrong and it's push ups. They friggin' love it !!
If my calculations are correct, by the time he gets right angle trigonometry down, I should be looking like Arnold Schwartenegger !!

Been watching the Bears/Seattle game. Can't believe how big of a lead the Bears have just given up to the Seahawks. I can't watch it anymore! Hope they play even better next week against the Packers...now to suffer through the Patriots game.

The Patriots lost to the Jets!! Dan's already turned it off. The Bears go on and the Patriots go home...WOW!:woohoo:
I was watching the Jets/Patriots game also. Sure was glad to see the Jets beat up the Patriots!
