Hi, I'm Meagan. I'm new to this. My boyfriend has been in the Navy for 2 and a half years now, and he leaves for his first deployment in November of next year. His father is a 24 year Navy Vet so I know his parents are going to be supportive a have all the advice in the world for me, but there 300 away miles from me and not always reachable so I imagine I will be turning here for support quite often.

Thanks, I'm sure I'll have more questions as his deployment gets closer.

Welcome Aboard Meagan!

What's your boyfriends rate? What ship is he on?

I'm going to sound stupid, but I don't really know what 'his rate' means...all I know for sure is that he's an EN3 on the USS Makin Island in San Diego

Nope, not stupid at all, however, you answered my question. His rate (job) is EN3.

Wow, he all the way on the other side of the country then! What do you do to keep busy? Are you in school?

yeah, I'm in school for massage therapy. He and I have known each other since high school, but just recently reconnected and realized that there's always been something between us, so as crazy as everyone tells us we are, we're giving this a shot...what's 2000 miles, lol...skype has been a life saver, and he comes home in a few days for Christmas so I'm pretty excited

Hubby was an EN when he was in and he's been working on heavy equipment since he got out....

That's good. If you guys want to make it, you both will have to work at it and that can be just as hard! :)

@ VaBeachMom, no doubt he'll be doing something with machinery when he gets out, but probably more with cars, he was in school for auto mechanics before he joined

Ah! We can be buds! I'm in a similar situation with my boyfriend. We have known each other since we were about 5 years old and recconected :) It will be interesting because I ship out for boot camp in April and we are already halfway across the counrty from each other as it is! Its tough, but we can do it!

@ ponyup we all need all the friends we can get huh...It's just nice to know that there's a place I can go to talk if I need a word of encouragement, living in a military town (Wilmington) I go to school with a few people who's husbands are in the Marines, and they're helpful, but at the end of the day, they still get to go home to they're man...I get to go home and wait 4 hours and hope he's not too tired to get on skype when I get off work...those are the days it's really hard...and duty days, when not only can I not see him at all, but he has trouble finding enough signal to text me every now and then, but damn it if he doesn't try :)

It definitely helps having a mechanic handy though doesn't it?
