Hi Guys,
I am here checking out the cafe and really enjoy all the different features. I feel like I am already part of the family being a refugee from Navy-parents as well.

Glad to find yet another vice on the computer to keep me from getting absoulutely anything done around my house. I am getting new laminate floors in 2 weeks and need to be packing stuff up, it is almost as bad as moving! But hey this is a whole lot more fun! Plus it doesn't involve dusting or lifting or putting boxes together.

My soon to be Seabee is patiently awaiting orders to find out where his homeport will be. Hopefully will hear tomorrow! Dad and I are praying for Port Huneme, only about 6 hours from home. He said he would love to go there too but anywhere is fine with him that he gets to drive his equipment. He is loving the Navy life, on backhoes right now and got 100% on surveying practical and the instructors wanted to know why he wasn't an engineering assistant. He said he might consider that after his first enlistment but right now his heart is set on driving Tonka Trucks for real!

Thanks Ray for hostessing a great site!

So, did you find out where your son is going to be stationed?

I'm also a seabee mom but my son is still in BC....

I heard there was a port in Guam for seabee's, is that true?

Keep me posted!

Mommadukes-
As I have grown to understand it over the last 10 months or so, Guam is one of a virtually unlimited number of places Seabees see duty. I don't think there are many (any?) permanently stationed there.

The great majority of junior Seabees will be assigned to a Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB). The two bases for NMCBs are Port Hueneme, CA (near Malibu and Ventura), and Gulfport, MS. There are relatively small numbers assigned to Amphib Const Batts (ACBs) and they're based at San Diego, CA and Little Creek (Norfolk), VA. Fewer still get sent to Const Batt Maint Units (CBMUs) in San Diego and Little Creek.

So, for those who get assigned to a NMCB, their homeport will be CA or MS, and they'll deploy to Rota, Spain, or Guam from there. Then, they "forward deploy", usually in smaller detachments, all over the world from the main deployment site. They do this, generally, in 7 months out, 7 months in homeport hitches.

Do you know what exact rating your son is signed up for? Mine's a UT- a Utilitiesman. He's the guy putting up the A/C and refrigeration units, running water lines, and getting rid of the gray water and black water. He just finished A School in TX and is now in CA with NMCB 4. They deploy to Guam, and then on to points all over, in April or May.

Hope this helps,

Foy

You need to go to Little Creek NAB. That's where they are located.
