Hey guys, I'm new here. My boyfriend just left today for bootcamp in Great Lakes. He enlisted back in April..so I've had months to prepare for this. But I'm still really depressed.
He's in to become an Information Systems Technician.
I just want to learn as much as possible about anything and everything.
He's on a 4 year contract. After basic it's A school in Florida, then we don't know. He'll probably be on a ship right? How often will I see him? If there's a way to even guess.
Thanks for ANY tips or info. I joined this forum for support and to hopefully cheer up some!
Welcome Aboard!
It just depends on where the Navy needs him when he graduates A School. Our resident IT guy (MacSteve) received orders to Italy as his first duty station. Like I said, just depends on where the manpower is needed when they are handing out orders.
Take the time to look around and ask whatever questions you may have, we will help you when we can.
As far as the depressed goes, don't be. No need in it. Turn that energy around an make good use of it. Being 17, I'm sure you are either in school or about to head back to school. Keep your grades up!
Maddy.

Welcome Lauren, My daughter is CousinIT here on the board, her first duty station was in Japan and is currently on the USS George Washington out of Yokosuka Japan and is on her very last deployment....yippie!
She leaves there very soon to come back stateside to be an IT A school instructor. In A school they are given a dream sheet where they list their top 3 choices of where they would like to go, Japan was her first choice....but with the Navy it is "per the needs" so there is no guarantee of where he will go.
DK3 has listed in his signature a great link...... I put together to help those while they are waiting during boot camp.....be sure to read it. Just read all you can here on the board and do not be afraid to ask questions.....
What to do while your loved one is at Boot Camp:

Hello:
My boyfriend just started training out in Coronado, San Diego, and for some reason, i feel this separation is going to be harder than when he was in Great Lakes. I know they go through "Hell Week" and some more hardcore training. How do you deal as a gf with all of it???? I know im going to be supportive 100% but i miss him so much. I'm so proud of him though. I know i need to toughen up my heart and prepare my self to be with out him at least for the next 6 years.. But how do i do that???????:frown:
How do you survive staying together? How do you tell your heart he will be home one day?
For now. i heard he will get weekends off. But not for long. Then it cold be months b4 I can fly out to see him. I know God is powerful and only gives us the stuff he knows we can handle, but sometimes its easier said than done.
Any suggestions on how to deal with the pain?? :frown:
