Thanks Chief! I actually spent 7 months going twice a week to my recruiters office before I was even DEP'ped in! Spent a long time on the Q&J list, and ended up going to MEPS about 5 or 6 times before I finally hit an empty slot. I had my General Orders memorized by the time I got my contract, and I feel very confident for boot camp( please don't confuse with cocky) I'll read up as much as I can here before shipping out to see what others are doing etc.

All the best,
Steindor

You'll do fine.

It ain't "cocky" .... if you can do it !! Confidence is a strong leadership trait.

Congrats!

Get busy on your memory work and be sure to retain it. Learn it so that you can recite them from memory out of order on demand.

Definately don't forget be prepared physically also...

Congrats!

Thank you!
I should be set physical wise. Been training with the local SEAL motivator for about 4months now, still on the fence of whether I should do the EOD challenge in boot camp or not.

About doing a SpecOps/SpecWar challenge in boot camp.... my recruiters aren't much help when it comes to that side, and I've heard conflicting reports from two people recently back from boot.

first person said that during your initial swim test, you can request to train with the SpecOps/SpecWar folks, and that if you are unable to pass the test later in boot, you could possible become Undesignated, which is obviously not good.

Second person said the same thing, but here's what else he said. He said that you stay in your original division, but wake up earlier to train with SO/SW. And that sometime during week 3, you take their PST. If you cannot pass, you simply retain your original contract.

So what is correct?

I honestly do not know a specific answer for you, but I am curious as well. And for that, I am going to forward it to some NSO/NSW's that should know the answer.

What I do know, is that all Spec ops and Spec War recruits are required a 14 day pst before they ship, and if that PST is not up to the standards of the recruiter, you could lose your contract and be forced to find a different job in the Navy.

All I am saying is, if your NSO/NSW recruiter does not feel you, the recruit, are putting in the required or necessary effort to increase your numbers and show them that your serious, then they will not send you to boot with a spec ops contract to fail, but either have you seek another job in the navy, meaning get another contract, or they will give you more time to train. I have been told that recruiters actually get a chewing from their superiors if they recruit a spec ops/spec war recruit and they DOR, so everyone is cheering you on to success. :)

I do know from numerous conversations with the recruiters though, that if you DOR your training pipeline, your going to the needs of the Navy. Meaning, we need to take this seriously and be humble about it, or the training could bite us in the a$$ and we may find ourselves doing something we do not exactly want to do.

Also, I have a friend who just went through basic with a contract for SEAL, and he informed me that there are seperate divisions for AIRR and SEAL. They put all the SEAL together and then they have a group of AIRR altogether.

I will try to find more info on the challenge program though, I am curious, just never heard of it. good luck.

If you have facebook, here are a few links to check for info if you want. I am sure someone would know the answer.

Where in Tampa are you from, and if you do want to do Spec Ops and dont sign a contract before you go to boot, your RDC's will ask your division who wants to try the spec ops route, and you will get up earlier than everyone else and go PT with them, then come back and do the regular stuff with your division, after a few weeks of that you will be transferred to a 800 division, if you cant make it then you'll come back to a regular divison.

My recruiting station is North West Tampa. And yes, that's pretty much what I heard from that one source, I just don't want to get any surprises should I decide to go SpecOps/SpecWar. I'm sure my RDC's in basic will answer that question. So for now, PT PT PT:cool:

Yet ANOTHER AECFr haha. (And they wonder why the hold times are absurd here in Great Lakes....) Good luck in boot, try out that program for EOD. Can't hurt ya, you'll just loose some sleep and time with the div... which loosing time with the div aint too bad if they IT while you're away, heh...
Anyhoo, have fun! You'll be fine. Going in Sept will be good, too, since you'll be outta there before winter hits (the compartment isn't fun when you're freezing at night) and you can go home during Xmas Standown.
