Watch out guys.. they preach it over and over at your Sep meetings and its serious. A shipmate and friend of mine was just caught on base inhaling dust off. He came into the navy with an associates degree as an E3 and made E4 in his first 4 months here. He lived in a house off base over here because he was E4 and his paychecks were about 4k a month to pay rent and such... he's now on class Charlie restricrion.. awaiting mast.. and hes 99% going to get the boot..
yep... its no joke especially with drugs or substance abuse.

E-4 in four months? I thought there was a minimum 6-month wait time. How does that work?

Hmmph .... E-4 to E-nothing in half a heartbeat all due to sheer stupidity.
Good message MacSteve. I hope our future sailors pay heed to this.

wow that's crazy, dust off, thats so damaging to the cilia in your lungs and not to mention thousands of brain cells that unlike cilia WONT regenerate. from what i found online dust-off or "dusters" only has a euphoria of about 1 min at the max.
one story i herd from my recruiter was that a fellow air crewman was caught with cocaine in his system after returning from a mission. the entire crew was tested as part of just regular testing. the guy was i think a year away from his 20 year mark and was processed out dishonorably and had to explain to his wife and kids why he wont be receiving his retirement. it shocked me why someone so close to the 20 year mark would risk it.

I worked with a gal who's husband (also a sailor) died from huffing Trichloroethelyne commonly known as "trike". It's stuff they use to clean electronic parts etc ...
Came to morning quarters and passed out ... never came back. Very sad for his wife and parents.

That's the same stuff I believe pistol. This dude had it made.. college debt being repayed and such, now he's probably going to have debt, no money, and a nice general discharge with non honorable conditions..

... and a real hard time getting another job. Employers actually look at your discharge papers (Re-enlistment code on your DD-214 form). As a recruiter, I had many employers call to find out what a certain discharge code was for a prior military applicant.
There were a few people who missed out on a good job after that ...

its crazy how many people do this too.... We have people trying to commit suicide with it here and stuff.... its pretty crazy.

just got word today from an IT1 after the chain had a meeting with the CO and such.
Verdict:
SEPARATION
guys, this is real shit... I'm not sure why this caught me by surprise.. a few of us were discussing it and saying it seems he might be busted to e1, 60 days of restriction, 45 days extra duty, and half months pay x2... I heard this and just froze... chills are still going down my back.

Is this his "first" offense? Or should I say, is this the first time he has gotten caught?
Back in my day, they would have put him in rehab first before separation? Wow, they have gotten a lot tougher. But I guess it is best for the Navy to do this?

yes this is the first time hes been caught with abuse of a substance. while never been to mast, his other offenses are an ARI (alcohol related incident; he was a passenger during a DUI), gotten into a fight out in town and gave a false statement to security, then was arrested for doing that, but only given DRB... and hes been late to work by several hours multiple times.

Easy to see the chain of events there ... he left a trail of breadcrumbs to his demise a mile wide. This is the kind of person that you hate to see leave the Navy because they probably know their job very well ... but can't run themselves enough to make it all work.
Oh well ... 10 more lined up to take his place.

Buh - bye !!
Really stinks when you think about how many tax dollars the Navy invested in this young sailor ... only to have him screw it up like that.

^2 nukes just went to mast here like a week ago...

talk about investing money?
we had an IT1 go up about 2 weeks before him for using his gov't travel card at the NEX. this dude deserved to go up WAY before but he was real close with our old dept. chief and he got pulled out of a lot of shit. his punishment for that was same as above, without the discharge and he lost his clearance. now apparently he bounced a $1000 check at the nex before going to restriction, and is acting up in restriction; like refusing to work so rumor is hes going up AGAIN when he gets out lol.
I see the end result being the same.
my god we god a new CO like i think 5 weeks ago and we have had 2 mast cases, one about to go up for the porn @ work, and another whenever that dude gets out of restriction...
I wonder if this tells anybody anything in our chain...

The question that I was wondering with all that trouble how come his LPO or LCPO did not step in and send him to counseling. Clear signs of a problem or abuse.
For all you deppers and new sailors read this and heed. The navy is zero tolerance on substance abuse. If you find yourself going down that trouble path ask for help before it bites you. If you wait to long they will catch you and then make you life suck for a long time.
