So i was at MEPS May 19 and completed my physical and basically EVERYTHING. Then I got to the part where it was time for me to select a job...I was literally in the waiting lobby for about 5 hours...So then my recruiter calls my name to the door.( I'm running THINKING im about to get my job...) Then my recruiter tells me THERE ARE NO JOBS AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW. Now maybe some "OG's" of the navy can help me or explain to me whats going on...Today is May 23. Mind you I graduate this saturday...and I still work at Kroger (a grocery store if you're from up north) so I'm trying to get to the REAL money with the navy...Please help && Explain.
:huh::huh::huh:

what did u score on ur asvab and what job are you looking for?
It's the economy. Everyone is wanting in the Navy (military in general) in order to get training and decent pay. So, the Navy (and again all of the branches) can be very selective in who they want. As a result they are being very selective in addition to having so many slots available for new recurits. That results in backlogs of recuits wanting in and having to wait.

35 is still for the army and marines, but airforce coast guard and navy all raised it to a 50 min, i think the coast guard might be higher.
I went in a week and a half ago and was told there weren't any jobs. I even got a 97 on the ASVAB. It is May, lots of high school kids are finishing school, and the economy isn't doing well.
I know it is frustrating, it is for me. Just the whole not knowing at the moment. Take the time to continue to get yourself ready to go when you do. I've had to step up my physical training, cause I know that's what is going to be difficult for me. So I figure this time is just a little extra time to prepare myself.

yeah, even with high scores its difficult now, unless your a minority or a woman. My recruiter has asked me if I know any minorities or women or both aka my sisters -_-. Sad but I guess its somewhat true.

I was in the recruiters office today and she told me that for the next year there were only 6,000 jobs available for the next year. I dont know exactly when that year starts or anything because I know the Navy's fiscal (I think thats right) year doesnt start in January, but regardless that is not many at all.

Fiscal year starts 10/1.
Don't know if recruiting goals are on a calendar or fiscal year. Chief, MM1?

All I can comment on is what she told me. But 6,000 is really nothing when you think about 50 states and all the people interested in it.
