Washington (CNN) -- An Iranian navy plane that approached a U.S. aircraft carrier last week was flying as low as 300 feet as it neared the USS Eisenhower, U.S. military officials said Wednesday.
The Iranian aircraft was a Fokker F27 that was unarmed, officials said. It remained in the vicinity of the Eisenhower for about 20 minutes before leaving the area, according to the senior official. The Eisenhower had just finished a series of carrier aircraft flight operations and a resupply at sea mission.

Quite interesting.. I wonder if it was meant to be a show of capability/power or if it was just some airspace training they were performing.. Either way I'm sure they knew damn well the carrier was out there.
What do you guys think?

rash response: take their oil and level them to the ground
reasonable response: I think its a matter of time until something escalates with Iran, they are just pushing buttons and waiting for a response.
I'd say it was a show of force and to measure our reaction? Although I didn't see if it said this, I would imagine the carrier would have launched a couple of escort planes to see the intruder away from the carrier?

I agree with Acer.. its probably a matter of time until we do something with them....
DK3,
like ADM. Roughhead said, it is international waters. They monitored the plane from 100 miles away (and I'm sure its more then that, but they don't want to give it out) and apparently the plane wasn't following a pattern of attack..
I'm not pilot, nor do i know about planes and such, but i would assume they can tell if it has explosives and such on it, and I guess in order to shoot/drop them they have to be on a certain path.
Yeah, they were in international waters, however, they normally send escort plans.
When the Caron was in the Black Sea, we were always probed with MIG-15's. The Commodore requested from the carrier in the Med to send planes up to escort them as soon as they had them on radar approaching the Caron or the Yorktown. When they escort them it's not a combat mission, just a line of sight visual to kind of say, "Hey guys, yeah we know you're here and we're like here to in case we need to do something, ok, bye" kind of thing.
What is sad, is I do agree with both of you that it does seem that this is going to end in some type of armed conflict. However, I do hope it is later than sooner as our Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines are stretched a little to thin right now.

This is a practice fly by Iranians and they are doing it for years. Don't believe me, ask someone who has been there. The wonder is: why this is suddenly a national news? This is just another advertising using the media to prepare public to send their children to die for Israel.
OK, what are you trying to sale here?
I'm neither anti-Israel or pro-Israel, just pro-American and pro-military and in particular, pro-U.S. Navy.
So, again, what exactly is your point other than trying to draw everyone into gangbang on Israel to which I won't be sucked into?
