I'm 18 and starting to think about what I want to do after highschool and I know 100% I want to be in the military and I was thinking swcc in the navy. Problem is I'm not a full us citizen. I'm just a permident residnt. Is that going to be enough? And I was also wondering how appliying works. Do I join the navy doing another job and apply to the program or can I sign up for it with my requirter when I sigh my contract. And finally do I have to do the basic bootcamp training as well as the 22 week swcc school? Email me at n_dube@live.ca. Much apprecated.

Welcome to the site. I'm pretty impressed that even though you aren't a US citizen, you are still wanting to defend this country .... there are a lot of natural born Americans who won't step up to the plate.

Your citizenship will definitely be an issue .... but since there are soooo many different types of residency and types of citizenship ... you will need to speak to the recruiter directly. No possible way we could answer that here. I do know that there are people serving who are not full citizens. I just can't say how it is done.

SWCC is now it's own job ... so yes, you would sign up specifically for that. You will go to bootcamp and then on to the SWCC training.

Find the local recruiter and set up an appointment to go speak with them. Write down all of your questions before you go in .... to make sure you get everything answered.

Let us know what you find out, OK ?? I'm curious as to what they tell you on the citizenship thing.

Cheers,
PISTOL

well this is my home now so why not defend it. i was defiantly born for the military and i appreciate the help. I am still a canadian citizen but being that iv lived her 3 years iv obtained a alien registration card ( form I-151 ) so i can join SWCC. Basically its called a alien resident card but i just applied for my permanent residency and i was accepted so im all good. i go see my recruiter at the end of the month to officially sign my contract ( DEP ) but i have another year to graduation. also a green card can be used to go to SWCC training. again thank you for your help. much appreciated. i cant wait to finish training and start serving. going for 20 years hopefully!
