I joined 20090313 and im leaveing 20100302. Im so excited to leave, its been a long time coming thats for sure! I signed up for DC and from what my chief tells me I got one of the best jobs in the NAVY. Im pretty sure his judgement is pretty bias based on the fact that he is an engineer also(EN). So anyways haven't posted in awhile so i figured i would give a shout out to everybody!

I do have one question for you AlexRiot! what where p-days like?

AlexRiot

dude p-days are like hell im not going to lie.. maybe its the culture shock or peanut butter shot but p-days are by far the worst part of boot camp.. and dont sleep for about the first 48 hours...

p-days alot of shots, alot of filling out paperwork that you feel like you filled out the same thing like 45 times, uniform issue, waiting around, getting yelled at, standing by to stand by, your gonna get your military ID made at some point and its gonna be quite possibly the worst picture ever taken of you..... your gunna start learning how to march and no matter how much ROTC or boy scouts or whatever everyone has your WHOLE Division is going to suck at it and your gunna be cursing at each other and stepping on peoples heels.... after p-days is over and you move from pearl harbor to your ship things get better that first marhc with your loaded seabag feels like a death march but after awhile you get used to it uniform issue 2 sucks thats a heavy ass seabag...

not long after p-days u fall into a routine and your brain goes on auto piolet and you just kinda coast on through... boot camp is what you make it there were moments when i was like what in the holy hell did i get myself into, there were nights when i cried myself to sleep, but just stay possitive over all boot camp was the time of my life... remember why you are there focus on the goal... charish your phone calls and letters it'll be over before you know and you'll be sittin at your a-school missing boot camp...

Do you get newspapers in basic at least? Like... they don't TOTALLY shut you off from what is going on in the world, do they? lol

AlexRiot
02-07-2010, 02:52 PM
lol the most news i got was like the 30 minutes of news i watched while waiting to be seen at dental you have no news until you start getting mail... your pretty isolated from the outside world

That sucks. I'm going to miss the NHL playoffs. I was hoping to at least be able to read a newspaper every 3 or 4 days so I could know what was going on.

Oh well. It's a necessary sacrifice.

Dragonsi your gonna be there with me during P Week. Although I am leaving 20100317.

Stoked! AECF. Future Sailor... alright... got it.

So Alexriot how was everything... since your the one who seems to miss your days at Boot I do believe we could all benefit from your detailed explanation hehe.

Although myself being 28 I'd like to think Life Experience trumps feeling overwhelmed at bootcamp. I am very positive, very glass is half full guy right now :)

I'd like to think Life Experience trumps feeling overwhelmed at bootcamp.

It will be helpful, however, in the first few weeks, there will be nothing that you can do right.

They will tear you down and then start rebuilding you in way that Navy wants.

It's a blast.

<sarcasm on>

I liked Army boot camp so much, I decided to try out the Navy's basic. Loads of fun.

<sarcasm off>

Southbay, I am sure we will be very out of it during P week. Hopefully we can stay awake-that's my goal anyway- and to not get nauseated from lack of fluids or food or whatever....

woohoo! another 'old' person, lol. you'll have to come back and tell us whether age had any effect while you were there

I'm sure age means nothing to be honest... it's all about mindset. Is an older person more likely to have the right mind set? Now that is possible. But in general, I don't see how age matters. Just saying.

Well don't forget about the snipes. Without them you don't have power, no water, no getting underway. But of course DC's are important in that they keep the ship afloat!

Oh my, Pdays. Pdays my friend are the worst days in the world haha. Funny enough its not because they push you hard, or work you till you bleed or anything like that. Its because you cannot do a damn thing! It is so maddening not being able to do a single thing of significance because you must wait for medical to clear. You cant PT, you cant learn anything outside of General Orders, Creed and Chain of Command. All you do is stand and sit around.

Pdays are easily the worst days of boot camp without question. Once you start 1-1 things get better, even though you can now be punished. I would rather get BEAT (Basic Education and Training) every day than go through PDays again. The fact that I really hate needles kinda contributed to that as well. You give 4-8 vials of blood, and take a whole battery of shots while in pdays as well.
