so quick run down of the situation.. Being an IT, I work with communications over radio's and such. This duty station not so much ships, but planes. The past 3 weeks we have had either horrible or no encrypted communications on almost any wavelength. Whenever it doesn't work, the people who work on my watch floor blame the people in the plane, and the people in the plane blame us; nothing actually gets done about it. So today I said F this, and was able to get an officer to take me over to the plane to do proper comms checks since we can't do encrypted checks with ourselves. Upon arrival at the plane I started getting an overview of how they had their stuff worked up since its almost completely different setup then our watchfloor. I started troubleshooting and trying this and that.. eventually i got it all to work. every last frequency, every last wavelength. We went from 0 comms to amazing. I got taken to see the I guess supervisor of the officers squadron (O5) and he started chanting my name and stuff. My chief was called letting him know everything was good and he was dumbfounded that We got everything to work, and even more so that I pushed to get over inside the plane to get my hands greasy; something that had never been done before.
Today was complete success.
oh and the best part, i loved every last second of it. Troubleshooting is awesome.
Congrats on a job well done!

so uhh even better:
i called this morning to just make sure everything went well and turns out the plane had bad comms. so me and my Sup both went to the other base (for personal reasons) and ended up goin to work by choice to help out. our chief was there and we gave him the whole story about what happened yesterday including some troubles i was having with this AT1 all mad that an E2 fixed his shit. Tomorrow, even though we have mids tomorrow night, we told my chief we are going to come in (myself, my supervisor, and another guy who knows his shit) and hop on the plane about 2 hours before it takes off and get everything going because now the people running it are feeding us BS like the plane's radio's have been CASREP'd (broken with emergency to fix for those who don't know) for a month.. but thats a complete lie. This is really cool; and I have a feeling we are going to end up with some sort of award like warrior of the week (hello 48 hour liberty )

Again .... great job !!!
A bit of advice from someone who understands the jargon and jibberish and dealing with sailors .... it's ok to feel good about your accomplishments (you done REEEAAALLL good, shipmate !!) ... but when you relay the problems and what you did to resolve them to your supervisors (especially the Chief) ... just stick to the humble facts of the matter ok ?? If you run into issues with another sailor ... relay the facts verbatim.
Now ... I'm not suggesting that YOU are doing this, mind you ... just a general statement for the benefit of all the deppers & active sailors on here because I saw it all the time. Nothing irritates an LPO (Leading Petty Officer) or their Chief more than a sailor who breaks their arm patting themselves on the back.
Let your hard work and dedication to duty stand on it's own merit ... and you will benefit from it a LOT more than if you toot your own horn. It will be noticed in due time ... I promise.
Cheers,

so thanks for that insight Pistol! I think considering the few things I've gone through lately with my command, I'm just extremely happy about this because for once I'm on the good side. I haven't flapped my wings or anything to anybody else.. it just feels really good to be on the proper side of peoples minds you know?
