Anything you guys can tell me about STG (Sonar Tech)?

Just got my rate today, STG, Sonar Technician. So far all i know is that the A School is in San Diego (oh joy...I was hoping id leave this town after 23 years here haha) and that its 8 or so weeks.

I read on my contract that there is an additional 8 week course after? Anywho any advice and information on this rate and the happenings at the A school would be awesome

My Divisional Officer (Divo) was an STS...pretty much what you're going to do on a sub. I thought the school was longer than 8 weeks, guessed they changed it. It was like a year long. I don't really know anything about it, we don't have STG's on the boat...they only come TAD (temporary active duty).

Hmm I dont think Ill be on a sub as I had not volonteered for it. And yea there is more schooling. The initial A Schooling takes 8ish weeks, then there is a second course I have to take that lasts 6-8 more weeks.
