hah; when you call them they are probably going to try to meet you in person.. theres not much they can do for you over the phone.. make sure you get information from the enlisted recruiters, and then ask for contact info for the OCS recruiters and talk to them.

Bring a pen, paper and an open mind.

The recruiter is not a used car salesman .... can't give you "a deal" even if they wanted to. They can answer your questions, show you the pros and cons of your decisions and shuttle you to and from wherever you need to go to make an ASVAB, physical or ship you off to bootcamp.

You need to spend a few hours reading all the posts on here, speaking to your family about the military and taking a long look at your own personal goals FIRST .... and then with questions and concerns in hand ... go meet with the recruiter.

You are not in a huge rush so don't let anyone put you in that position. If there is nothing stopping you from joining ..then get it done. If the little hairs on the back of your neck start standing up and things don't feel or sound right ... let them know that they can feel free to contact you again in a week to see if you've made a decision.

Go research some more .... until YOU are satisfied.

Lots of good recruiters out there ... I hope you find one that takes care of ya !!

Cheers,
PISTOL

So I spoke with the OCS recruiter in Pittsburgh and I'm scheduled to take the ASTB, dont have to take ASVAB since its for OCS. He sort of gave me a brief overview of the next steps and asked me tons of questions about my health and such... He said once we get the test done then we can progress from there which makes me happy... I enjoy small steps at a time because that means a goal is accomplished each time. The reason I want to join the navy is because I need a challenge... I need to have goals and to be striving each and every day to better myself. It's who I am. My family are very proud of my decision to pursue the navy and are behind me 100% I have been reading as much as possible about everything... would like to find more info about MEPS tho since that's what is next and it sounds pretty in depth.

MEPS is a real adventure. They invented the phrase "Hurry up and wait" there.

Not much to it really ... your physical exam is done here, your initial application and scores are processed here and you will be spoken to in depth about the career options available to you at the time. If you are good with what you hear ... this is where you will sign the dotted line and say the oath.

Very looooong day so your patience and focus will be tested immediately.

and dont get discouraged from being at meps. Dont judge the navy based on the people you meet a meps. Keep an open mind, and keep in mind whats really out there. Good luck!
