Ok, I am currently a Senior in High School and am interested in joining the military/navy.
I am 6'1'' and 240 pounds, am I to heavy for the Navy? I am big boned and do not look 240 at all but, sadly, I am.
I am perfect with my record (not so much as even a parking ticket), I am intelligent and maintain a 3.0+ GPA, I took the ASVAB and scored high, I also have fine eye sight, hearing, etc. Its just the weight that worrys me.
Will I not be able to enlist?
Are there any overweight programs?
Any other branches of Military that have weight control programs?

The max you can be at your hieght of 73" is 206 pounds
Army 195 pounds
Marines 208
Air Force 208
Seems like you need to hit some serious PT. Easly can be fixed with a good PT regiment.
i was 6'2 240, lost 10lbs in 2 weeks and was good to go. while it boot camp I got down to 205, which is where I am right now. lose a little bit of weight and you'll be fine, they will tape you if you dont cut weight.

Thanks guys.
I definitely have a dream of joining the military. My father died of terminal cancer when I was 9 and he told me to take care of my mom, going into the Military will help me take care of my family and will also be a great experience!
I will get in better shape and will learn valuable lessons.
Already I am running every night and evening, I am doing push ups, sit ups, and biking the back woods down here in Florida. I am changing my diet slowly and no longer eat any fast food or junk. I began eating breakfast to start my metabolism. Hopefully these will help me out in the long run!

Not to be a downer but how can you take care of your family when you at sea 6 months a year?

Well, taking care of the family is some what exaggerated. But if they ever need any help then I can and will help them.

financially, I'm pretty sure his mother can take care of her self, unless she has some type of disability.

while you may fall above your weight limit, many people do. They tape and check BMI. for example, I'm 6'0 202. I'm 6lbs over my weight.. However when they taped me last, I was like 12% BMI.. with a max of 21
I am also pretty sure that his mother makes more than a high school student finanically speaking.
not always... lol

Shes a doctor so that doesnt really effect me, but in the literal sense I could help take care of them, my brother has ADD and has problems doing things, etc.
ok, then like he said, how do you plan on taking care of your family, if your not around?

In a more figurative sense then anything. I honestly do not see why you care about that one statement so much.
bc you said your dad who died when you were young told you to take care of your mom, but leaving definitely wont be taking care of her..

maybe he meant taking care of her piece of mind. taking care of them emotionally. most parents in a situation like his dads dont look at their 9 yr old and say "take care of your family financially" so im guessing he meant "stick together" and regardless of him leaving for the military he will still always be with him emotionally and never cease to support them in that way. going to the military will give his mum the piece of mind that his dad was hoping for

I'm sure when his father told him to take care of his mother, he didn't say "Take care of your mother until your an old man and make sure you never good a good job because of these restrictions"

You don't have to be present to take care of your family.
I think he means to help take care of them financially.

I totally agree with you on that one. LOL..
You don't have to be present to give moral support.
Just knowing that your parents and children are there for you when you need them ( by phone is o.k.)
Being there for your family doesn't mean you have to be physically present. Just knowing you have their support when and if needed is of great relief, and knowing that your child could physically or financially help you out gives a parent great relief.
There are many aspects of being there for your family.
Regular calls or e-mails from a beloved family member from far away is also being there for them.
Showing them you are self supporative and caring.
There are many many ways of being supportive to your family present or not.
