So... only child, daughter, has been in the Navy for 1 1/2 years now. She is serving on a destroy that will be at sea for 5 more months. I have JUST been informed she has discovered she is pregnant. We are beside ourselves, know nothing about the military. She is not married and said she will be sent stateside.

How what where? Don't even know what is coming, what benefits she will have.

Stunned in Kansas..

Sorry to hear. I'm pretty sure she will be sent home port and put on some sort of day working job while she waits out her pregnancy. I'm not 100%, but I think she will go to Captains Mast for getting pregnant during a deployment.

What exactly is Captain's Mast? It doesn't sound good to me...

Of course she could have gotten pregnant before she left.

But sent state side back to home port with a assignment to do there until she delivers - then there will be another issue to tackle.

Yes evidently she got pregnant right before she shipped. Major surprise to her and her boyfriend is on the destroyer, too. I just wish I could talk to her. Hard way to find out via e-mail. AM glad to be a grandmother, but the cir***stances sure leave a bit to be desired!

see thats the thing though. her and her BF are on the destroyer. Are they in the same Division?
I still think she's going to Mast. Just because you get pregnant before your ship is out to sea doesn't mean your free to go when you find out your pregnant and your are out to sea. that's one less person to do your job, and more everybody else suffers because they have to pick up the slack.

Captains Mast is non judicial punishment. So they can punish her, but she won't be sent to Jail or anything like that. She CAN face such consequences as decrease in rank, loss of pay, extra duty, restriction, and of course being discharged.
not 100%, but I believe the Mast will take place after she's given birth.

There may be other problems as well...as it is against the rules to "date" someone in your division, or ship. Not saying it doesnt happen alot..but I would expect her boyfriend to get in trouble/masted as well. My friends sister got pregnant while in the navy and she wasnt married...she was discharged. But that was 5 years ago, the rules may have changed.

I'm not sure much about the rules changing. I do agree 100% that her boyfriend will be masted as well.

She said today they are ok; not in the same division so no problems. She talked to her BM1 and was told no rank problems or mast problems, etc.

Sounds a LITTLE bit better...
