So in 8 hours your time, and 2.5 hours my time, I will officially been in the NAVY 1 year!
I've been saving for awhile, and it is going back to the states thanks to the stupid overseas motorcycle age limit here... However its only going to be there for a year until I take it to my next duty station and ride it daily..
without further adieu

2010 Harley Davidson Nightster
I've already named it Ace short for Ace of Spades since its black and white (Am I wierd for naming my motorcycle?)

My helmet, gloves, and special riding jeans have not been bought yet. I found a steal on a leather jacket with CE approved padding in all the crucial areas with plenty of ventilation on ebay for $170 (retail 480).
the helmet, jeans and gloves will be bought in a month or 2.

:biggrin::biggrin:

Good looking ride .... and the orange pinstripe will match the road guard vest that you will have to wear on a US base.

You will get a lot of good information from the mandatory motorcycle safety course that they give to get your base decal. Probably one of the better courses around.

Are you getting this bike through the overseas vehicle purchasing program ??? Tax free, right ?? Definately a good perk to being stationed overseas .

Cheers,

Oh ... and one more nugget of information from this old biker Chief, that you may or may not be aware of yet ....

IF you get into an accident on the bike and were not wearing your helmet and safety gear (even off base and off duty) and you die ... your military beneficiaries WILL NOT get a dime.

If you manage to survive .... you will be charged with a violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) and all the bad stuff that comes with that (loss of rank, pay, restriction to the base, loss of on-base driving priviledges, and possible discharge under less than honorable conditions ...etc). Wouldn't that suck ... get a bad discharge and can't get a job because of that AND because you are too banged up to hold a good job anyway ??

Not worth all that to look cool .... and believe me, there are those that think that way.

Cheers,
PISTOL

yea I'm getting it through the overseas program. Its crazy cheap. and LOL at the road guard vest, they actually make orange vests that dont look to awful.. but from what I understand, the NAVADMIN says its only required at night.... I'm looking into alternative methods..
they make tape thats black in the day, but shines like a roadguard vest when lights are on it at night.. Im considering putting something on the back of my jacket instead of wearing a stupid orange vest.

Pistol,
rest assured I have done ALOT of research into this. I know all about the gear stuff. I also found out if you crash and you weren't wearing proper gear, TriCare gives you the finger.
thanks for the concern though!

Would you please tell a little about the Overseas Program .... how it works and who is eligible .... I'm sure that many of these guys would really benefit from it.

Sure the military overseas program is sponsored by the car/bike manufacturers.
Not all Companies are there, becuase not all of them play ball. It's all american.. Dodge, Jeep, and Ford are the ones I know of, and of course Harley Davidson/Buell.
I know the MSRP prices are much lower for these vehicles then what you would find out normally.
I dont know the exact %, but to give you an idea.. my motorcycle online MSRP is 10k. with a 4 year warranty (800), and the special color code (500), I got the bike for $10,849 out the door, shipped to FL. and of course, its tax free.

There are alot of different discounts that go on different times. They have free shipping and plenty other things offered. I know right know they have some sort of green tag event that they claim is "better then the stateside clash for clunkers program".
I just signed the paperwork today, and due to the awesomeness (yea, its a word) of the prices, you're forced to sign a contract saying you are not allowed to sell whatever you buy for minimum 1 year.
G, the guy who runs the the shop on my base is really cool. hes a retired IT1 and is very helpful. He's been a huge help all throughout this process which I started a few months ago to save.

I know for harley's you can set up an account and have an allotment of your pay transferred to that account instead of your checking account, and when you decide to withdraw that money to put into the bike, you get 7% interest on it, which is pretty cool if you have saved up a hefty down payment.

You can have your car/bike shipped to pretty much wherever the hell you want, as long as somebody is their to claim it if your not.

I think thats all I can think of right now, If anybody has any questions I'll be happy to answer them. If I cant, I'll shoot G a call and ask him.

Sorry if all these facts are broken up, I just kind of typed it as it came to mind haha.

EDIT: heres some stuff i Just got in the email that is provided when you go through the NEX car sales

Free Guaranteed Asset Protection (G.A.P.) Insurance- Protects you in case your vehicle is totaled or stolen and the insurance company values your vehicle at less than your loan pay off balance. G.A.P. Insurance pays the difference.

Free Emergency Payment Protection Plan- The E.P.P.P. is here to help if a sudden emergency arises or the military is phasing out your specialty. The Emergency Payment Protection Plan will make your payments for you in these cases to help lessen your burden in times of need for up to 12 months. Ask for your pamphlet on this FREE plan and keep it with your important do***ents - just in case.

The reporting of your loan status- To all three major credit bureaus to insure your current and future credit rating has all your major purchases listed. This provides your future lenders with a comprehensive review of your profile. Good credit is always worth reporting!

Payment options via your checking account or through an allotment- To insure prompt and accurate depositing of your monthly payment.

Automatic credit application re-submissions- The industry wide standard is to offer standard loan approvals at a fixed rate for a limited period of time. Factory-Direct financing guarantees your rate for 90 days. If your delivery date is more than 90 days out we'll automatically re-submit your loan application when your delivery falls within this time frame, saving you the extra time and inconvenience other sources require of you.

100% Rate Protection on Low Rate Financing- Factory specials on Low Rate Financing are protected through the model year. This feature is not available at other financial sources anywhere!

Fantastic job ..... thank you.

Folks ... keep in mind, this is eligible for E-1 and up. The reason that I asked for this to be explained is because this is one of the best perks available for a service member to buy a new car / motorcycle.

Outside of any military base you are going to find several used car dealers .... all of them have signs that state "WE FINANCE E-1 AND UP". They prey on young service members with ridiculous interest rates and completely worn out vehicles. DO NOT BUY YOUR VEHICLE FROM THESE PLACES .... UNDER ANY CIR***STANCE !!!

I have NEVER come across anyone who bought a car from one of those dealers who was satisfied with the car or with the screwing over that they got financially because of it.

Again ... Thank you MACSTEVE for posting that.

Cheers,
PISTOL

That is one heckuva bike, and an awesome name by the waaayy. Bikes are wicked fun.

Thanks for sharing some legal tidbits, too, right now it's gibberish to me but when I'm thinking of getting a car while I'm in I am sure it'll make much more sense! (No one in my immediate family drives, poo.)

You don't learn to "drive" motorcycles, you learn to ride them .

If you are really interested in learning, the best thing to do is check out MSF (motorcycle safety foundation) courses near you and enroll. In that class you will learn the basics of riding, and you will get time on a bike. After you pass, you will be able to go to the DMV, and pick up a new license with a motorcycle endorsement included.

something i have learned growing up in the outskirts of los angeles... its all about the glitz and glam.

no offense i would love to get on a xr1200 but if i had the choice of pulling up to a fancy little restaurant on that or a ducati monster 1100 s

I would probably lean towards the Ducati

but hey that soon to be nightster of yours is a damn good lookin bike

I'm not comparin sports bikes to cruisers. I'm sayin the ducati monster was an awesome bike, but an R1 is a beast.
