I got to meet the CNO today! 12 of us from my department were picked to meet and greet with him today. I didn't get to ask my question, but it was nice actually seeing him as a real person! I'll post pics later =]

CNO ... Chief of Naval Operations .... Admiral Gary Roughead.
That is a pretty big honor to be able to meet the man behind the decisions. We tend to focus only on what is going on in our tiny little world aboard ship and often wonder why we do the things we are asked to do. When you have the BIG PICTURE shown to you by someone at this level ... things start to make sense and you realize what a dynamic organization the Navy really is.
CousinIT ... what were you wanting to ask the CNO ??

Look at the pay chart .... makes you a little queasy !! :lipsrsealed:
Lots of power and major stress ...not to mention you have to be a politician at that point :shakeheadno:.

oh I'm aware of what the pay chart says. I'd like to here him say it in a confident, un-scammingly tone.

I doubt that he's ashamed of what he makes or try to cover it up .... his civilian counterpart probably makes quite a bit more than he does without a fraction of the responsibility.
That's why they don't mind standing up to congress to get our regular pay increases !!!
If only politicians did the same thing ... but once again, the military leads from the front !!

Oh Im sure he's not ashamed of what hes making.. He pretty much runs the Navy. I just want to know if he thinks his monthly salary of what over 30% of America makes per year is helping the economy at all.

When you put in the time and stress that he has to deal with... He probably doesn't get paid enough.
A job with big bucks means big responsibilty and stress, and if your the one in that position you would probably think over worked and underpaid.

Which is not even close to enough to ensure the ENTIRE nation and our allies are protected. This guy is working on the future of the Navy as well ..... not just the day to day crap like we do. He doesn't really get Liberty any more ... it's 24/7/365 for him.
When you consider even a fraction of this guys responsibilities ... it's incredible. Think about it ... he owns ALL of the nuclear subs ... each one capable of destroying mankind. He is responsible for each sailors lives ... and think about how much danger some of us are put in each and every day.
Now ... would I turn down that kind of pay ??? Heck no !! I need a new BBQ !!

Break those figures down to a hourly wage and see if you think he is overpaid. LOL..
I know a couple of Drs... that make that kind of money... But they have no life outside of their practice and always having to talk calls. 24/7 365 days a year. The big bucks isn't worth it. No relaxing at the lake having a beer with your buddies.... No time to stop and smell the roses that you have money to buy but not enjoy.

Hehehe ... if you do the math ... $27 an hour hahahaha
Granted ... noone works 24/7/365 ... but everyone in the military is on call full time ... so that's what complicates the pay scale.
But ... after being in the military for 30-40 years, the CNO gets the same medical / dental and vacation benefits as you do/will ??? How kick butt is that ??
I don't see one single politician doing that .... do you ??
LEADING FROM THE FRONT !!

PISTOL
