I think I'm ready to go to a recruiter and talk over my options. I've done extensive research about the Navy, and I think its the right thing for me. I'm currently a Junior at Ohio State, I'll graduate either in March or June 2010, whatever time will be better for me to go to Great Lakes. The only thing really that was holding me back was my girlfriend kind of. She supported me and what I wanted to do, I just didn't think she'd be able to handle Basic and Deployments and Cruises and all that. Turns out, she wants me to do it now, she wants to live the Navy life with me. So all's good! The only thing is that I'm a Canadian citizen, so I won't be able to become an officer, and I'll have to enlist with my degree. I really think the Loan Repayment Program is what I need. This way, when I get out of the Navy, I'll have experience in one profession, and a BA in another field. Broaden my horizons. I'm limited on what ratings I can choose, but I think I want to be an Electrician's Mate. I'm just wondering what kinds of ships they're attatched to most of the time. So now I just have to talk to a recruiter, lose some pounds, and convince my mom that this is best for me, lol.

Welcome to the site and congrats on your decision !!

Every ship in the Navy has a full compliment of Electrician's Mates. That is a great engineering job that has lots of follow-on possibilities in the job force. I would highly recommend that you pursue the Journeyman program. Your training and day-to-day work all counts towards getting your Journeyman's certificate ... very easy to get and it pays big dividends when you get out.

Cheers,
