Hey I'm Chris, I'm 20 in June, I am trying to better my life, so I am thinking of joining the Navy, I have a friend in the Navy right now and she loves it. I have a few problems though. I only have one kidney and I am overweight so if anyone on here has some tips on to get in shape and lose weight that would be a really great help.
Most of my family did not join the military and I have always thought of joining, so the branches I have decided were the Navy or Air Force. Navy is my first choice, I would love if anyone can help me out.

Im trying to get down to 180 (from 220) before going to basic. I run 2 miles, do a full upper body workout (i alternate to lower body every other day), 100 Jumping Jacks, Push Ups, Sit Ups, mountain climbers, and prison squats, then swim laps for an hour, as well as diet. I'm sure you dont have to work out quite as hard as i do, but my goal is to be able to pass the physical test at the end of basic prior to going in...you can only improve!
As far as the kidney situation, youll have to ask your recruiter.

I have to lose about 50 to 60 pounds I'm 5'8 and weigh 240ish. So is there any diet suggestions that you have? I need to diet and workout, I am going to do what you suggested but not as intense as 100 to start off.

Chris,
If you haven't already...lay off sodas completely. Try to drink as much water as possible. Cut down on fattening snacks and sugar. Eating 6 small meals/snacks throughout the day will help speed up your metabolism. But I put emphasis on small. Eat the biggest meal at breakfast so it will give you the most energy for the day. Check out something like weight watchers and stick to it. Not that you have to join, but sounds like you would work best if someone laid out a menu for you to work off of. Between eating right and exercising (lots of walking/running...do cardio like there's no tomorrow!) then you should be able to shed the excess weight. Good luck and thanks for your consideration in joining! I pray that the best option works for you!!! Keep us posted:)

You will most likely need a medical waiver IF they can for one kidney.

I do a good mix of cardio and weight lifting. After cardio your metabolism only stays up for a couple hours, weight lifting keeps it up for almost 12. A marine buddy of mine told me to do 100 of each in as few sets as possible every day. So you can do 5 sets of 20 throughout the day. Over time youll be able to do more each time.

Im not sure about letting you in with 1 kidney man. Good Luck though!
and if you do end up going, I guess dont drink as much as they tell you to because you will have to pee faster then anybody else.. and as much as they tell you to drink, theres no way you actually get enough head breaks to match the ratio

I just did my weekly call in to my recruiter (for DEP) and mentioned the one kidney thing, and he said that would be an immediate disqualifier. Check with your local recruiter, because he might have some different information. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Well that sucks, I guess it wouldn't hurt to try anyways.

Even if the navy doesnt work out you still owe it to yourself to have a better body, You will be amazed just how good you can feel when you start eating right and exercising!
I hope it all works out for you!!
