Alright, I go to the boot camp this coming October, and I was just curious if I am allowed to have iPod during Nuclear Power Program school (listen to it while I do my homework, in my room, etc.) which this will all happen after boot camp of course. Also, can a laptop be allowed? If anyone knows the answers, please post 'em.

Thanks.
Hooper

You can have your ipod at nuke school...but all homework is done in the class room due to security. So you cant have it in there. Plan on at least 20 to 30 hours of AFTER class "study time" ASSIGNED each week while in nuke school. It can be more if you get behind or test scores are low.

you can have anything you want after bootcamp. dont listen your RDC's they may say you cant. its a lie, they are just screwin with ya. have your parents bring your ipod, laptop, whatever you want or have it ready to be shipped

You can have anything you want at NNPTC you just cant have any of it inside the school house. For a few weeks CMC said we werent allowed to have any food, so get ready for some strict rules about your personal belongings. Its not so bad once you get used to them. If youre married the rules are a tad more relaxed. Hope you get a cool SLPO.

Does this also pertain to other a-schools? Like for AECF folkies? Basically it is somewhat strict at first but they become more relaxed, eh?

It pretty much pertains to any school; except for maybe Seal Candidates since they go through Pre Buds or w/e its called.

Can't have EVERYTHING. They won't let me have beer or anything that generates heat in my room. No stove. No space heater. No toaster... *grumbles* Stuck cooking everything with the microwave!

But yeah. Anything else. During "Phase 1" you can have a car, but can't drive it btw. Have to wait for "Phase 2" to drive it.

Don't bother worrying about folding everything all prim and proper either. They just want everything clean, spotless, dustless, and no open food. And a made bed. And a lock on the closet.

And the floor vaccuumed. But they don't give a crap if your underwear is ironed after boot camp if you get my drift. Feel free to buy a full desktop PC and stick it in your room too. Just don't be surprised if the BEQ quarterdeck gives you a room move slip one afternoon and expect everything moved by the next day. Don't make my mistake! Get a laptop instead!

Other fun items you might want for nuke school... things like wireless routers! Comcast has cable connections through all the quarters on base, you just need to pay them money. Yep.

Oh yeah, another thing you can't have: Don't know if it is just this command or if it is the entire navy but for some reason I was told you can't have a hooka. So if you like smoking tobacco in exotic looking pipes... think again. Something about "drug paraphernalia." A restriction that I think is about as ridiculous as refusing to sell matches to 16-year olds to light the grill because matches are "smoking paraphernalia."

Thanks for the advice, Star. I did read that laptops are the way to go since when you get out to the fleet there is no room for desktops. Even though I would LOVE to have a killer gaming desktop (hehe). I suppose I'll settle for a "gaming" laptop. I even thought about possibly getting a Kindle, or cheaper version, lol.

Yea, the kindle would be a great idea! You can get books pretty much anywhere you can get a cell signal I think i will pick one of those up before i go. I will wait till just before i go in case they come out with a new one!

The important thing about ipod's, cell's laptops etc. is that you don't bring them back to Great Lakes RTC while your on liberty weekend. If your parents bring your cellphone with them to your grad, you can use it off base, but if you bring it (or ANY portable electronic device) through the gates with you it will be confiscated. Don't go to Gurney Mills mall with your folks and by a new iPhone and expect to walk around RTC with it. They will have to send it to your A-School.

I'm at IS A-School, and like at nuke school we can't bring anything into the school house. They even told me that if you get mail while at the school house and open inside the building you have to surrender it so it can be burned. Don't sweat it though. If you Have any of the AEF or ATF rates, they won't give you much time to mess around on your laptop anyway.

ya dude you can have hookah's. BUT you just cant have them on any bases because of the whole drug paraphernalia aspect. Since the navy is all about apperance is everything, and hookah's look very drug related you cant have them on base. you cant even keep it in your room. I have one ant home and left it there because of that but my buddy just moved out into town a few weeks ago and we bought a hookah to keep at his house. Just make sure your only smoking shesha out of it and not something else. Yes i agree with you its really dumb but you just have to go with it. Hookahs are good social things and they're nice to just kick back and relax and smoke some tobbacco instead of smoking nasty cigerattes.

Hooyah Navy. Go Navy beat Army.
