Hello, I am seriously considering enlisting in the Navy. It seems to have everything that I've been seeking in my life up to this point. But I like to do the research when making important decisions (life changing decisions!). I have a list of questions a mile long for the recruiter, but I know he or she has a job to do and will be slightly biased in favor of the Military and enlistment. I came to this sight and was hoping maybe some of you could share a little about your time in the service, the good the bad the ugly, so I can get a better picture of what lies ahead. Specifically, do you really get to "see the world?" And how much time is spent on ships? Did you find that Superiors were like the commanders and generals in the movies, or did you find that for the most part the stereotypes about servicemen and women were, on the whole, false? I admit that joining the military is just about 180 degrees from what everyone expects from me, but I was really surprised how many of my "friends" were so intolerant of my choice - was wondering if anyone has any pointers for explaining my decision to loved ones who 'just don't get it'. I really feel like the Navy has EVERYTHING I'm looking for, but Id love some opinions from people who know what they're talking about. Thanks alot, a prayer for all your families. C.V.W.
